BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump headed to Montana for a Friday night rally in hopes of ousting the state’s Democratic senator, but his plane first had to divert to an airport on the other side of the Rocky Mountains because of a mechanical issue, according to airport staff.
Trump’s plane was en route to Bozeman, Montana, when it was diverted Friday afternoon to Billings, 142 miles to the east, according to Jenny Mockel, administrative assistant at Billings Logan International Airport. Mockel said the former president was continuing to Bozeman via private jet.
Trump’s campaign posted a video of him upon landing in which he said he was glad to be in Montana but did not mention anything about the landing.
The former president came to Montana hoping to remedy some unfinished business from 2018, when he campaigned repeatedly in Big Sky Country in a failed bid to oust incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Tester.
Tester has tried to convince voters he’s aligned with Trump on many issues, mirroring his successful strategy from six years ago. While that worked in a non-presidential election year, it faces a more critical test this fall with Tester’s opponent, former Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy, trying to link the three-term incumbent to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

I hope Tester will be thrown out this time around.
Montanans, do your duty.
Supposedly, there was a hydraulic leak. Was his SS detail diverted to another plane before it took off for Montana? Would DC sabotage his plane? Absolutely!
Attempt 2?
Supposedly, there was a hydraulic leak

It must have been a leak that was significant enough that the pilot concluded he couldn’t get down the road another 150 miles or so. I saw a video of the landing in Billings and the it looked quite normal. So much depends on the mechanical function affected by the leak and the degree of leakage. No one can fault the pilot for landing as soon as the leak was detected. Now, the questions remain as to what was behind the leak - defective or damaged hose, loose coupling, etc.
“… but his plane first had to divert to an airport on the other side of the Rocky Mountains…”
Billings and Bozeman are both east of the Rockies, aren’t they?
Opposite sides of Yellowstone but both East of the bulk of the Rockies. There is a little mountain range East of Bozeman that is part of the Rockies, so technically they are correct, but just like Tampon Tim, the devil is in the details. Maybe 20 miles of Mountain driving in the Rockies between them.
“Nearby” in Montana is a relative term.
Do Boeing thrusters power the hydraulics?
Do Boeing thrusters power the hydraulics?

I don’t know the answer other than that the reverse thrusters appeared to engage OK on the Bozeman landing. There are lots of hydraulic servers on that plane that rely on an intact hydraulic system.
A cousin left Alaska for Montana for better weather.
Sometimes, crap just happens - not everything that goes wrong means that there’s a ‘conspiracy’ going on.
Is there a live thread on the Montana rally anywhere?
I, for one, see what you did there. LOL
