The growing pressure on “Judge” Juan Merchan
Fallen Sidebar Mod

Posted on 08/09/2024 11:03:48 AM PDT by Sidebar Moderator

Regarding the looming September 18 sentencing date in the Trump “hush money” case, Merchan could go either way, in my humble opinion. He could sentence Trump to one year at Rikers, but grants a stay pending appeal. But the pressure on Merchan to go nuclear (order Trump to be taken into custody immediately) will be huge, from state and national Democrats and from his daughter, who’s raising boatloads of cash from the case. Your thoughts?

Ah, yes. Yet another childless, cat lady! ;-)

Don’t go ballistic. I’m only joking because of the newest way for the dims to slam Conservatives! LOL

I think that it’ll become like the “Deplorables” comment by Piano legs.

If the judge dares send him to jail it is he that should be concerned for his life.

It’s a huge step too far.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree ;-) — Mueller, the Russia hoax, J6, certifying a stolen election — republican party bosses were either silent or complicit. It was the flimsiness of the Bragg case which was a Bridge too far for some of the leading legal lights of the party, like Andy McCarthy. But they were onboard with regards to the Documents case, J6 and Rico.

People will vote early before the debate or sentencing, and Kamala will have votes in the bag like Fetterman did.

Disagree. It’s no more a sign of “weakness” now than when Trump was taunting Biden with debates “anytime, anywhere,” when Trump was 10 points up.

Ordering Trump to be taken into custody immediately would backfire and almost guarantee his election even with massive voter fraud. Once in custody, Trump has the right to petition the SCOTUS for a writ of habeas corpus without having to first petition the United State District Court for the Southern District of New York or the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. Although the SCOTUS has not granted such a writ since 1925, it certainly has the power to do so — and it only needs one justice to grant the writ.

“I really think due process is dead in that s**t hole. Else, Merchan would have been forced to recuse, under state law. His response to such motions has been, up yours.”

I agree. I think he will take the easy way out and recuse himself.

nuclear or no, any sentence that takes Trump off the campaign trail is the ultimate in election interference. If a judge engages in election interference then the court case under Judge Chutkan against Trump is surely out the window.

but first things first - next week, Merchan decides, again, whether to recuse himself. Then on Sep 16 we have the presidential immunity hearing and two days later, supposedly, the sentencing. However, there’s no guarantee the Sep 16 hearing will only last 1 day. If Merchan recuses, September happenings are also out the window. If Merchan has any common sense, the safest play all around will be to recuse.

I would love to see him try and do this. I can’t see how Trump could be any more popular, but if they tried to pull this, I think he’d hit 70%

I think the backlash would be massive, and that corrupt nasty Judge likely wouldn't survive the upheaval.

That turned out to be the wrong decision. Timing is everything sometimes.

House arrest at Trump tower. No more rallys. That is all they want.

LOL, few weeks back, gut told me Biden wouldn’t drop out, that journalist Mark Halperin, who was boldly predicting Biden would call it quits, was wrong. I posted a thread titled, “Mark Halperin has fallen!”, only to eat crow a day later (July 21) when Biden announced he was throwing in the towel. I then posted a thread titled, “Sidebar Mod has FALLEN!”
We all had a good laugh. 🤣🤣

And what about the SCOTUS affirmation that guilty verdicts must be unanimous?

Look for something more subtle, but equally humiliating. An ankle monitor on Trump with Trump being required to have all travel plans approved by Merchan, with a period of each week on home arrest.

Very plausible scenario. Evil without going nuclear.

It’ll be Nelson Mandela with the ability to Zoom rallies. Instead of 50k, it’ll be 100k attendees 😂😂😂

The Elon Musk interview may be indicative that Trump hasn’t ruled out that scenario.
