The growing pressure on “Judge” Juan Merchan
Fallen Sidebar Mod

Posted on 08/09/2024 11:03:48 AM PDT by Sidebar Moderator

Regarding the looming September 18 sentencing date in the Trump “hush money” case, Merchan could go either way, in my humble opinion. He could sentence Trump to one year at Rikers, but grants a stay pending appeal. But the pressure on Merchan to go nuclear (order Trump to be taken into custody immediately) will be huge, from state and national Democrats and from his daughter, who’s raising boatloads of cash from the case. Your thoughts?

Prepare for the real possibility that he will be sent straight to Rikers for as long as he possibly can. Every time someone has ever said, “Oh, the left wouldn’t go that far, surely,” they have.

For God’s sake, they just tried to have the man assassinated a few weeks ago!

Sending a presidential candidate to jail just doesn’t work. The dims would suffer horribly in the polls.

It will be surprising if he doesn’t. The Left plays to win.

It depends on whether or not they have noting to lose and maybe something to gain. However, I doubt there is a lot of calculus involved in their direction and I actually think they are tone deaf or just don’t care what anyone thinks about what they do.

It probably depends on where the race sits. If Harris is fading at that point, he’ll sentence Trump to jail immediately. If Harris has any sort of lead, they won’t want to disrupt that, so Trump will be given probation, or some such thing.

I just hope Trump has recorded some kind of statement directing us all to vote for Vance in the event he is killed in prison, which certainly could happen.

Send Trump to jail and I predict the backlash will send Democrats running. Trump supporters, 70+ million, have had it with these sham trials and court cases. They aren’t going to be passive anymore.

Rumors are (and they’re always rumors) that the USSS has already met with Rikers Island staff regarding how they would protect President Trump were he to be sentenced to Rikers.

I would love to see him try and do this. I can’t see how Trump could be any more popular, but if they tried to pull this, I think he’d hit 70%

I saw a clip of former FBI director Comey saying that to solve logistical problems, they could bring in a Double Wide trailer to house Trump.

Rikers is a jail, not a prison. I tend to think that Trump will be sent to prison. Either that or the government will attempt to assassinate him again.

They are deranged by the Trump rallies and crowd size because they hate the deplorable American people.

I don't think Merchan can sentence President Trump at this point because he hasn't held any hearings in the wake of the United States Supreme Court's ruling on Presidential immunity.

Merchan delayed the sentencing hearing, but has he done anything in the meantime to review the use of protected sources or evidence to resolve the "presumed immunity" aspects of the case?

Bragg called Trump White House Communications Director Hope Hicks to testify. Hicks' testimony would be covered by "presumed immunity" unless Bragg can present evidence why it should be waived. Trump's lawyers would then have an opportunity to cross-examine Bragg's evidence and rebut his claims.

Bragg also called Madeleine Westerhout, Trump's director of Oval Office Operations in 2019 and former Secretary to the President between 2017 and 2019. Bragg has the same issues of "presumed immunity" with Westerhout.

To my knowledge, Merchan has not held any hearings regarding the use of testimony of either Westerhout or Hicks. If Merchan thinks he can just summarily rule on their immunity status unilaterally and then move onto sentencing, then due process of law is officially dead in New York.

rumors) that the USSS has already met with Rikers Island staff regarding how they would protect President Trump were he to be sentenced to Rikers.

The USSS has zero interest in protecting President Trump. JUL 13 was just the latest proof. Recall back to JAN 6 2021, and the USSS... UNDER PRES TRUMP... colluded with the FBI to plant the fake pipe bomb by the DNC HQ, with Kamala inside, just in case their plants in the J6 crowd failed to accomplish their goals. And TRUMP'S USSS "accidentally" erased their communications record for that day, soon after the records were subpoenaed.

Now that a it is BIDEN'S USSS, their interest in protecting President Trump is even lower.

No kidding. Far too many Freepers are guilty of this. How can so many people who believe themselves to be intelligent be so blind and even stupid about this?

This was the plan from the get go, sending Trump to prison on a hush money case while Hillary committed 6 million (convicted) of Federal Election fraud and NY State did nothing. Once Trump was in prison, they would demand he have no SS protection and Epstein him.

I am starting to feel like my belief that things could be decided peacefully here in the US by legal elections was unfounded. The left seems to be itching for conflict. Still, I don’t believe they understand the sensitivities of population centers to disruption of basic services.
