Ohio Senator JD Vance is being attacked for his military record after he criticized that of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the recently announced running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaking to reporters in Michigan on Wednesday, Donald Trump's running mate accused Walz of "stolen valor," of having "lied" about serving in a war and of "abandoning" his unit......
Vance himself served in the Marine Corps for four years, and he also never saw combat. He worked as a combat correspondent in Iraq between August 2005 and February 2006. The senator has now been widely condemned for attacking Walz's military record as his own background is scrutinized.
Alexander Vindman, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "Vance enlisted & served 4 yrs, including 6 months in Iraq in 2005 as a reporter w/ a Public Affairs section of a Marine Aircraft Wing.
"Walz served 24 yrs earning 8 promotions & ending as a Command Sergeant Major, the highest NCO position. I don't think JD wants to compare records but if he insists."
Jake Broe, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a nuclear and missile operations officer, wrote: "Tim Walz retired from military service after 25 years of honorable service. He retired an E-9 Command Sergeant Major. JD Vance went to Iraq for six months and wrote press releases from an air conditioned office."

Blasting Vance for being a media and information public affairs officer in Iraq is very curious since that same job title belonged to Algore Jr during his tour in Vietnam.

A high water mark occurred during a NATO Tac Evaluation, on my first trip into th Wing CP. while briefing the Wing Commander on the deployment of our 8 Chaparrals and 8 Towed Vulcans, an NBC input was dropped, a nerve agent attack at Ramstein.
The Wing Disaster Preparedness Officer, a Captain, was obviously intimidated by the 6 bird Colonels, and overreacted to the threat. The silence was thunderous, as I said, “Colonel, may I make a recommendation?” Before he could answer, I gave him 3 reasons why a lesser alert level was the right call. The NATO Chief Evaluator agreed, as I saw him nodding his head.
so it went for the next 15 months: I was called to the Eagles Nest whenever there was an NBC input. It was a fit, as one of my extra duties at my battery was NBC Officer.
I would later be kicked upstairs to Battalion for the same role, and a week at the NATO School in Oberammergau, one of the loveliest places in Europe.
And where did the AH get all this information about his buddy, Walzing Matilda? From his campaign website? He was in the Air Force. Walz was in the Army. The only Airman who knows anything about my ARMY military career would be my son who retired from the Air Force with 24 years.

Did Vance earn combat pay while in Iraq?
Did Walz earn combat pay at anytime?

Walz spent 24 years in the National Guard. How much of that was active duty? I’m not disrespecting 24 years in the National Guard, but I don’t think it’s the same as 24 years active duty in the Army.
