Ohio Senator JD Vance is being attacked for his military record after he criticized that of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the recently announced running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaking to reporters in Michigan on Wednesday, Donald Trump's running mate accused Walz of "stolen valor," of having "lied" about serving in a war and of "abandoning" his unit......
Vance himself served in the Marine Corps for four years, and he also never saw combat. He worked as a combat correspondent in Iraq between August 2005 and February 2006. The senator has now been widely condemned for attacking Walz's military record as his own background is scrutinized.
Alexander Vindman, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "Vance enlisted & served 4 yrs, including 6 months in Iraq in 2005 as a reporter w/ a Public Affairs section of a Marine Aircraft Wing.
"Walz served 24 yrs earning 8 promotions & ending as a Command Sergeant Major, the highest NCO position. I don't think JD wants to compare records but if he insists."
Jake Broe, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a nuclear and missile operations officer, wrote: "Tim Walz retired from military service after 25 years of honorable service. He retired an E-9 Command Sergeant Major. JD Vance went to Iraq for six months and wrote press releases from an air conditioned office."

Anyone who went to Iraq then was quite brave. I worked with few.
This was not a regular war, but IED war, anybody could get killed, just driving to the airport!
And face it, in any war, not everybody serves on front lines. Only rarely, it gets down to the cooks! (one of my dear friend was army cook, served in Vietnam for long time, great man, RIP)
But, leaving the fellow combatant, when going gets tough, that’s a desertion!
The Harris website took this down this morning about him being a Command Sgt Major and ad hoc confirmation that his claim was disingenuous.
I think you misunderstood me. My point was that a battlefield correspondent like Vance has seen combat. Waltz has not.
Did Vance walk into a trap on this one?
VINDMAN is PURE EVIL!!!
There are many USAF members that were combat veterans. FAC’s, Pararescue, and many that were in transit organizations that carried supplies to the bases and were in combat after having left the base. I served with a veterinary technician that manned a 50 cal when his medical unit was being overrun in RVN and earned a Silver Star. When the MWD’s were wounded a veterinary technician had to go into the battlefield to tend to the MWD and I knew a couple of them that were in combat in that situation.
I think Vindman is a TRAITOR in the US UNIFORM!
I left out the USAF EOD technicians...they had a horrific job in Iraq and Afghanistan.
WTH does THAT mean??
Ditto. I wonder what a “Zoomie” Nuclear and missiles operations “officer” did in Afghanistan and Iraq. Sit in a “AC” office and shoot the crap with a press release officer.” Vance saw more combat in boot camp than that jerk saw in the Air Force.
Newsweek, The Hill etc. have gone total DNC. They were 3/4 of the way before but now they join the ranks of NPR/PBS, CNN, MSNBC, ABC and of course, AP.
THEY ARE WEIRD, CREEPY AND EVIL!
Vindman?!
Yer killin’ me, smalls!🤣
They are making a huge mistake. This isn’t about service. It’s about lying.
Vance: "No, I am contrasting our honesty. I've never claimed anything about my military service that wasn't true. Walz has. It should be concerning to the voters when someone takes their laudable service to the nation and turns it into something false and self-serving..."
I dare the media to try. Vance will eat them alive.
Vindman exposes that he is, in all seriousness, not a smart man. There is that old saw regarding attorneys: Never ask a witness on the stand a question to which you don’t already know the answer.
This sort of falls in that category. That is, He’s added to the exposure of this stolen valor thing and Vance may now respond to him. And it will be brutal.
Excellent response.
“ Did Vance walk into a trap on this one?”
No, he most certainly did not.
Why do you ask?
Not hard to figure out what I mean,he went in to the Marines as a simple recruit. Do you think he had any way of choosing what his assignment would be? The current attack on him is that it was a “soft assignment” compared to others ( see CNN)
“Walz served 24 yrs earning 8 promotions & ending as a Command Sergeant Major, the highest NCO position. I don’t think JD wants to compare records but if he insists.”
Walz did NOT retire as a CSM.
“He retired an E-9 Command Sergeant Major”? Let us see his retired ID card.
Let see his DD Form 214!
