If it was Italy he was probably stationed at USAG in Vicenza. Been there....a really nice area, IMO.

I knew people in Italy who did command & control type duties or who worked refueling, etc. Didn’t know them well so I can’t give a lot of details - but they didn’t carry guns “in war” there. Nor did they pretend. IIRC, it was considered a desirable deployment.

Yep, that would make him hazardous in all kinds of situations. I wonder if he lied about being how impaired his hearibg was, or if he somehow managed to hide it to stay in uniform.
They're still able to mitigate the "harsh fact check" with phrases such as "he has used language that suggested that he carried weapons in a fighting situation" and "the vice presidential candidate appeared to previously imply".
