Pence-led group offers blueprint to cut spending as national debt hits $35T

An advocacy group led by former Vice President Mike Pence is urging lawmakers to consider a laundry list of spending reforms to confront the growing national debt.

Advancing American Freedom, in an 8-page document obtained by The Hill, issued what it called a “guide to cutting federal spending,” a three-step plan that comes as the national debt recently surpassed $35 trillion.

“After decades of ignoring the significance of profligate federal spending, the consequences are finally starting to catch up to us,” the document states. “As has been the case, the problem is not a lack of revenue, but rather a lack of willingness to make hard choices to rein in spending and have the courage to say ‘no’ to wasteful programs.”

The first part of Advancing American Freedom’s proposal addresses reducing mandatory spending by laying out suggested reforms to programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Peckerhead Pence needs to lead himself into silent retirement.

It goes to show how irrelevant fiscal sanity is that a has-been like Pence is one of the few people who champion it. No one - neither Democrat nor Republican, neither Biden, Harris nor Trump (or Vance for that matter) - cares about controlling spending anymore. Overspending is going to be the death of the republic.

I love how people who create the problems then try to come up with ways to fix them. Seems like those questions should be asked when the problem is actually...you know...happening.

Why does the MSM keep telling us what Pence says? He is a failed politician loved only by the never Trumpers, an endangered political segment.
Pence defines anathema.

Pence is back in sabotage mode—giving Democrats ammunition so they can repeat the old mantra:

“Republicans are trying to cut your Social Security check.”

There is no such thing as deficit spending. There is no such thing as a national debt. When all of that can be ignored with no consequences to the spenders, then, the problems are not really problems and can be ignored.

we are now in third-word spending territory, and inflation is now a way of life, and in order to overcome inflation, more spending is demanded. A vicious circle and democrats will continue to pretend that spending is never a problem; some republicans too.

There is plenty of money to spend, when the money can be printed out of thin air. Problem solved!

Why does the Media care what Pence says?

Because Pence is trying to defeat Trump.

Hence this report talking about adjustments to Medicare and Social Security — WHICH HE 100% KNOWS WILL BE REPORTED

The Republicans will kill your Social Security.

The Swamp is the enemy. The debt is beyond all solution.

Pence trying to be relevant

No, this is the Deep State undermining Trump's support with, "This is what those eeeville Republicans want to do to your Social Security," all while posturing fiscal rectitude they never exhibited when they had the chance.

Since he’s voting for kaMAHla and not President Trump, he needs to shop his plan to her. Boy, I’d like to be a fly on a wall in THAT conference room! ROFLMAO

Better yet, since he has experience as a feckless incompetent governor become feckless incompetent veep candidate — maybe he should go through Walz. I’m sure Walz and Pence have a lot in common.

How 'bout this: 10 minutes after winning the election, Trump calls a press conference and says:

Starting tomorrow morning, every Federal agency, except Social Security and the military, will see a 10% reduction in their budget. I full expect every administrator of those agencies to perform at the same, or higher, level of service. Those who fail to meet these expectations will be replaced by someone who can. Have a nice day!

Milton Friedman had the solution. A balanced budget amendment. Since Congress is not going to restrict its ability to spend money , only Article V is going to get America there. The effort sits idle with only 6 states needed.

Good post.

Then move all the agency HQs to a low cost area in the Heartland with brutally cold winters.

Most Federal employees will retire or quit.
