Russian Railway Networks Facing 'Imminent Collapse': Report
Newsweek ^ | August 6, 2024 | Isabel van Brugen

Posted on 08/06/2024 4:50:27 AM PDT by canuck_conservative

"The complete collapse of the entire railroad network in the country could happen in days," the channel said. "[Russian Railways] chiefs have been ordered to work to the point of exhaustion. Those who fail to cope are threatened with dismissal and 'execution.' This is the motivation."

Russian Railways in 2023 reported that the number of trains suspended due to issues with its trains more than doubled to 42,600 amid a shortage of critical parts. This was due to "insufficient maintenance of the locomotive fleet," Kommersant reported in March.

A Russian Railways spokesperson told Vedomosti in February that the issue "became especially acute" in the final quarter of 2023.

Swedish bearing manufacturer SKF Group ceased all business and operations in Russia in response to the war in Ukraine in April 2022. It had operated in the country since 1991.

"Historically, Russia has imported most of its high-quality bearings from Western manufacturers," CSIS analysts said. "In 2020, for instance, Russia imported over $419 million worth of ball bearings, around 55 percent of which originated in Europe and North America; Germany was Russia's largest trading partner, taking up 17 percent of its total imports that year.

"Following the start of the invasion, major Western producers of bearings exited Russia and ended their sales there," the analysts said.

Western sanctions have created shortages of higher-end foreign components and are forcing Moscow to substitute them with lower-quality alternatives.

"For now, Moscow's efforts at state-backed import substitution remain largely unsuccessful," the analysts added...

If the railroads fail, the Russian's won't be able to rush their 70 year old T 62 tanks into the Ukraine to be slaughtered on the battlefield

uh huh. And the Russians are freezing to death in their tanks because Russians have never experienced cold weather before and are completely unprepared for it.

Oh and the Russians are running out of ammo.

Let’s not forget the Russians are about to have a civil war.

and then of course, the Russian economy will collapse any minute now.

The propaganda is getting truly desperate at this point.

It’s Newsweek.

They have been writing these doom and gloom articles about Russia from day one and have a track record of being right at about 0%.

But if it makes you feel good. Sure.

It’s all about finding the news which tells you what you want to hear, right?

China - Russia trade is booming.

I doubt this. Russia has a fleet of spare locomotives that they can cannibalize for parts and this will hold them for some time. But not having access to a steady supply of reliable ball bearings plus the known Russian habit of haphazard maintenance of existing equipment points to an eventual collapse, if the ball bearing issue is not addressed.

Guess we’ll see ... but the point is, Putin’s failed invasion isn’t going very well, is it?

Still bogged down after 30 months, with no win in sight?

It’s a bit of a side story, but after the war ended Hitler’s Minister of Armaments, Albert Speer, was interrogated.

Speer said the Allied bombers made an error. They should have focused exclusively on the German ball bearing plants. That would have ended the war much earlier, Speer said.

“Although the bearing structure is simple and many small workshops can be made, the bearing has a high technical content and can even be used as an important standard to measure a country’s science and technology, and industrial strength. Today’s world science and technology and industry powers without exception are bearing research and development and manufacturing power.”

There’s a pretty good explanation at the link on why bearings are the barometer measuring a country’s industrial competence. But I think it comes down to, you really have to invest in a lot of stuff and if you’re investing you aren’t spending the money on important stuff, like vacations in France or villas on the Mediterranean.

Get a clue,

We are no longer the big dog industrially or in manufacturing and China and Russia are allies.

We are no longer 40% of the global economy like in 1950, more like 22%: https://imageio.forbes.com/blogs-images/mikepatton/files/2016/02/Capture.jpg?height=318&width=711&fit=bounds

We are no longer the single leader in a broad range of technologies, and specifically military enabling technologies.

This isn’t WWII and Schweinfurt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Schweinfurt_raid

Sure,

Anything other than Russia is losing and doomed is propaganda by a Putin puppet.

Ukraine is winning and will soon take back the Crimea, the Russian economy is dead, all Russian troops are cross eyed, rapist criminals. Putin is about to be assassinated by his people which hate him so much... None of this might be happening in the real physical world, but if we BELIEVE it to be true hard enough, with our faith in democracy and God, we can make it that way.

In case you missed it, I was being sarcastic. Figured I might need to specify that.

Darth Putin @DarthPutinKGB

OTD in 1940, USSR formally annexed Estonia. Soviets troops had been "invited in" (not related to their 1st treaty with Nazis) & then held "elections" where 99%+ “voted” to join USSR.

None of this should sound familiar to you.

Failed?

Did I miss something?

—Is Ukraine in NATO?

—Did Ukraine hold the Eastern and Russian ethic areas?

Achieving you political and military objectives is hardy “failing.”

Russia will simply keep the pressure on at this point.

They will ensure that Ukraine does not have the opportunity to build a force able to conduct a new counter offensive.
Furthermore, the longer the war rages on, the more territory Ukraine loses and the more the West has to hemorrhage money and military hardware. This creates the needed pressure to eventually lead this to a closing under their terms.

It was never Russia’s goal to seize all of Ukraine. Don’t make up you own or changing goal posts as Ukraine loses.

Ukraine doesn't have to conquer Moscow. It only has to make the Russian invasion & occupation unsustainable and unprofitable for Putin.

Current Biden policy of not allowing Ukraine to strike Russian military targets in Russia with US weapons is ridiculous.

Ukraine had the opportunity to destroy dozens of Russian aircraft with ATACMS missiles, but the U.S. prohibited their use, according to Forbes. In early summer, the Russian 47th Guards Air Regiment parked numerous Su-34 jets at the "Malyshevo" airbase, 160 km from the border. Ukraine requested permission from the U.S. to strike this base with ATACMS missiles, but Washington denied the request due to fears of escalation

“The propaganda is getting truly desperate at this point”

Would say it works both ways, however I do recall the usuals here saying Russia will never run out of anything. I guess that means getting ammunition, rockets and missiles, golf carts and quads from China, nk and iran.

Their production is so strong that their vast stockpiles of old artillery, and tanks are being cleared, I guess for spring cleaning.

Many predictions have been made, we will see.
