Pentagon Abandons $110 Million Military Base As African Regime Takes Over
Daily Caller ^ | 05 Aug 2024 | Jake Smith

The Pentagon announced Monday that it had finished withdrawing U.S. forces from a $110 million military base in Niger, Africa, as the nation’s ruling regime takes over.

Niger’s Air Base 201 previously hosted hundreds of U.S. troops who have now evacuated at the request of the country’s military junta....

Some equipment from Air Base 201 was shipped out, such as weaponry, but other equipment was left behind....

“What the [Biden administration] was not understanding, is that these guys are cold-blooded. This new government in Niger? They don’t care. They do not want the United States involved in their country,” Michael DiMino, a former CIA official and senior fellow at Defense Priorities, told the DCNF. “There was this denialism for several months that, ‘We can salvage this, we did fix this.’”

Another casualty of Biden admin's 'antagonistic diplomacy', attempting to exercise control over Niger's own foreign relations, this base was functional less than 5 years.

After we blew how much on Bagram in Afghanistan?

Can we please stop going around the world constantly meddling and looking to cause trouble while blowing vast amounts of money on foreign military bases and weapons/equipment that we just leave behind anyway?

I’ve got an idea. How about we bring the boys home, secure our southern border and leave the bases, weapons and equipment right here in the USA?

When deGaulle asked us to leave France in 1966, my Dad went from a radar technician to a truck driver.

He mentioned that they even pulled up the precast curbs from the roads.

OK, that was France in the 60’s. Don’t tell me this regime wouldn’t have spent whatever just to spite a conservative country.

Niger is full of socialists, so Biden;s generals did what they do best, arm our enemies.

Ukraine ping

My sense is that the Russians are paying select African leaders fairly large bribes and promising them that Russia will keep the jihadists at bay. The cash these leaders are getting is real enough, but the military support is likely to be inadequate to the task. The Africans at the top probably have escape plans all lined up, but I wouldn’t underestimate their stupidity, that they believe the Russians can stalemate the jihadists the way US coalition forces have. Incompetence and wishful thinking are two of the main reasons why sub-Saharan Africa is home to so many basket case regimes. The way an undersized company of Wagner troops was annihilated over a week ago suggests that the Russian presence is so minimal in manpower and equipment terms, it can’t even protect itself, let alone the African governments to which it has made commitments.

“I would imagine Niger did not want LGBT freaks molesting their kids.”

I remember the protesters saying JUST THAT as they booted out the French last year. It was a HUGE FACTOR in our ability to not reverse the coup - the country LOVED their military for taking over and kicking out the Globohomo.

As to “no boots on the ground”, that’s BS, there’s PLENTY of “boots on the ground” in Niger, except that they have Russian flags on that, as Russia simply aligns with their social value system.

Where things will get interesting now is in France, as they’ve just lost their most important supplier of Uranium for their nuclear plants (probably same for us, but not sure). Of course France (and the US) can now ask the Russians to supply Uranium to us, but we shouldn’t be very surprised if they say “net”.

The fallacy is that Russia can’t do any thing. Russia has fallen on her ass and can’t get up.

Nigerien. A citizen of Niger, as opposed to a Nigerian, a citizen of Nigeria.

It’s a fine point, for sure. And perhaps you got autocowrecked.

Like that liberal, female college student once told Rush Limbaugh. Africa is mostly all “African Americans”. From this picture, it looks like she was right. ROTFL!!!
