Trump Announces Plan to Eliminate Taxes on Social Security Checks

Former President Donald Trump announced his intention to eliminate taxes on Social Security checks if he regains the White House.

This announcement comes as part of a larger strategy outlined by the Republican National Committee (RNC) in their 2024 GOP Platform released earlier this month, titled “Make America Great Again!”

This comprehensive platform is inspired by the enduring vision of former President Donald Trump.

“The Republican National Committee (RNC) Platform Committee adopted President Donald J. Trump’s 2024 Republican Party Platform with overwhelming support– a pro-American agenda that stands in stark contrast to the record of weakness, failure, and dishonesty created by Joe Biden,” the Trump campaign said.

“President Trump’s platform serves as a contract with the American voter that makes clear what we can and will deliver under a President Trump administration with the Republican Party leading the country for the next four years.”

The platform emphasizes a commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare, promising no cuts or changes to the retirement age—a sentiment that resonates deeply with millions of Americans who rely on these programs for financial stability.

“Fight For And Protect Social Security And Medicare With No Cuts, Including No Changes To The Retirement Age” is one of the twenty core promises highlighted in the platform.

On Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social to amplify his message. “SENIORS SHOULD NOT PAY TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY!” he declared, framing the tax elimination as a necessary step to ensure that seniors can keep more of their hard-earned benefits.

His statement has been met with enthusiasm from many, who view this proposal as a direct response to the financial struggles faced by older Americans.

That’s what it amounts to, yes! As I recall Gore cast the deciding vote for the tax.. Could be wrong. I’d have to check the year it was passed.

I know people who formed C corps and just took dividends instead (or something to that effect). The result was they were not taxed. Apparently legal.

If Welfare isn’t taxed as income, neither should Social Security.

So you are okay with some people being robbed as long as it is not you?

First off, you can like the FACTS or not.

Second, I DO pay taxes on my SS and consider the situation fair. Those that cannot pay the tax DONT already.

Third, There is no completely fair tax system. Yet paid taxes are still part of the puzzle. Just because I am older doesn’t mean I should pay my fair share of taxes.

In my state (MN) it’s taxed, just like everything else they can get their greedy mitts on.

As a SS recipient I have a built-in bias, but I’ve always believed seniors on a fixed income, many physically unable to earn more $$, shouldn’t have to pay income tax on their benefits.

I also believe property taxes should be frozen at the retirement age assessment.

Where I live many seniors are being taxed out of the homes they’ve occupied for decades.

Taxes on SS was introduced in the 1980s.

Before that not taxed, but had to be declared.

Insults are also dem tactics!!!

You think it’s OK for any campaign to make a pledge/promise to correct something that IS NOT AN ISSUE to begin with?

“”Hey - did you hear Trump said he’ll make sure we won’t have to pay taxes on our social security benefits. GREAT IDEA!””

You don’t think a little tweeking on that statement would be in order?

You can get into a bracket that is taxed—just from Social Security income.

If you read your own link you would understand that.

Trump has had some pretty good positions that cut to different groups, no taxes on tips, now this.

From a tactical stand point, “win”, good politics. But chickens are gonna come to roost eventually for the nation’s spending.

It depends on your exact situation and how much SS you collect.

SSI is really nothing but welfare. It’s called Supplemental Security Income and is only for those who would otherwise not qualify for Social Security (e.g., by not having worked or are a minor.)

“”You are wrong it is taxed based on your total income.””

ONLY WHEN OTHER INCOME is added to your SS benefits meeting the threshold for taxes...

What is so difficult about this? It is not presented as a campaign promise as anything other than NO taxes on SS Benefits!!!!!!!

SS benefit - $$ - alone - NOT TAXABLE
SS + investment $$$$ - TAXABLE
