If Yellowstone’s volcanic system erupted, how could it impact the US?

DENVER (KDVR) — On Tuesday, visitors at Yellowstone National Park fled when a hydrothermal explosion occurred a few miles north of the famous Old Faithful geyser. No one was injured, but the event destroyed a nearby boardwalk and prompted officials to close the Biscuit Basin area of the park for the rest of the year.

As alarming as the video and subsequent damage seemed, the phenomenon is a normal, common occurrence at Yellowstone, happening at least once each year. Officials with the U.S. Geological Survey told Nexstar hydrothermal explosions like the one that occurred this week are “not a sign of impending volcanic eruptions.”

The moon was made of green cheese, how would it impact the U.S.??

Ask a silly question and you get another silly question.

There are far too too many variables with any possible Yellowstone valcanic eruption to know or predict ahead of time what the impact might be. It’s a guessing game.

“If Yellowstone’s volcanic system erupted, how could it impact the US?”

Depends on the scale of the eruption...

IIRC geological samples reveal an enormous desimination of ash covering the area presently known as the United States. If memory serves strata reveals 2 such events in geological history.

Aren’t volcanic eruptions like earthquakes??? They vary in size and proportionality...

Someone needs an editor. Near the end of the article, the author switches from Yellowstone to Yosemite.

Depends on the timing. If it happens before the election, Biden can name Kamala the earthquake czar and we will all be safe.

Mayor Pete can run evacuations and the mobilization of relief operations if he’s not on maternity leave again. Timing is important there too.
