From a story on the arrest of Ismael Zambada’s son Vicente back in 2011- note that the politically savvy cartel specifically wanted to use American made weapons in their terrorist plot and use a willing US soldier :
During the conversation, the documents say, Guzman suggests they target a Mexican or American government building in Mexico City. Vicente Zambada (son of Ismael Zambada) then turns to Margarito Flores and tells him to find a U.S. soldier returning from overseas to give him 20-30 “big powerful weapons,” specifying that they be American-made.

Makes it sound like they flew in for the purpose of turning themselves in.

Even though force is one of the main things the cartel criminals respect and respond to.... hitting them in their wallets and killing their profit would be more effective at getting their attention, if not their cooperation.
The only way to do that is to close the fricking border and inspect ‘everything’ coming across and enforce the laws already on the books, in addition to adding a few more that are guaranteed to make them cringe. But cut off their method of delivery, first.
It ain’t rocket science, but too many Americans are corrupted, in on the deal and getting a cut under the table to want to do what is necessary. While he’s at it, Trump should hire ‘real intel’ agents that will expose those that have been getting payoffs under that table... for a refreshing change of pace.
I think the bigger question is, how often have these two been running around in the US?

Apparently Guzman’s son decided to turn himself in and kidnapped the guy to take along with him.
With a 15 million dollar reward on Lambada’s head, will the reward go to the the son of cartel leader Guzman to share with his legal defense team? Who will be that defense team, anyway?
