House Republican members on the Oversight Committee said Tuesday the Department of Homeland Security has taken over communications between the committee and the U.S. Secret Service and refuses to confirm a time for a briefing that was supposed to take place today.
The interposition by the Department of Homeland Security comes as Congress is seeking answers from the Secret Service about the security failure at Donald Trump's July 13 rally in Pennsylvania where an attempt was made on the former president's life. The USSS had previously agreed to brief the committee Tuesday.
"After the Secret Service agreed to brief members of the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security took over communications with the Committee and has since refused to confirm a briefing time. The Oversight Committee has a long record of bipartisan oversight of the Secret Service and the unprofessionalism we are witnessing from current DHS leadership is unacceptable," a spokeswoman for the Oversight Committee said in a statement shared with Just the News Tuesday.
"While the Secret Service confirmed Director Cheatle is expected to appear for the Committee’s hearing on July 22, to head off any attempt by DHS to backtrack on her appearance, the Chairman will issue a subpoena for her to attend. Director Cheatle must answer to Congress and the American people about the historic failure that occurred on her watch," she added.
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Message: Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle must resign in the aftermath of the embarrassing spectacle of the S/S’s reaction to the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at a Butler, Pa rally on Saturday.
A presidential candidate was literally left on his own, with incompetent protection, abandoned to Cheatle’s loathsome doctrine of DEI.
Cheatle has been Biden’s nominee as the current director of the US Secret Service since Sept 2022, according to the agency’s website, and has worked for the S/S for 27 years.
Cheatle can never adequately explain why a roof top, with ladder, 150 yards from a shooting target, with an unfettered access to both the stage and the egress route to the target’s exit car, was left unguarded and uncovered.
The presence of three useless female agents expected to shield a 6’4” male from harm was unimagineable and embarrassing.
Cheatle must be relieved of her duties at once.

Cheatle will just do the usual him-and-haw and “I can’t answer that because...” and “I can’t recall” and yada yada yada. They won’t get a single meaningful answer out of her and it’ll just amount to cover the democrats butts. The deep state has completely taken over our govt and we should all know that by now.
It’s always the same and we cannot keep a Republic this way. If Trump gets back in office we might just have an outside chance for America to continue, if not then it’s over.

Pretty much the only thing that one can conclude by this ‘lack of interest’ in what went wrong is that, for the Democrats, only one thing did go wrong - that being that Trump’s funeral isn’t today. And they know enough to not have a hearing on that topic.
