Embattled Secret Service head Kimberly Cheatle has revealed the fateful reason why her agency failed to position an agent on top of the building that a gunman used to carry out an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Cheatle, who is already facing calls to resign over what some lawmakers are calling a massive security failure, said Secret Service officials planning security for Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania considered the warehouse about 150 yards away from where Trump spoke to be a risky position for stationing an agent.
'That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,' she told ABC News in an interview Tuesday.
'And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.'
What transpired instead was a security nightmare: Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to scale the building and secure his own position, while law enforcement struggled to locate him even amid pressing warnings from members of the Trump crowd. But there wasn't sufficient time to act on the tips, she explalined.
'The shooter was actually identified as a potential person of suspicion,' Cheatle said. 'Unfortunately, with the rapid succession of how things unfolded, by the time that individual was eventually located, they were on the rooftop and were able to fire off at the former president.'

It was hot out still. The roof was hot. Police setup on near roof, kneeling and using a tripod. The shooter was laying down wearing T-shirt and shorts. It was hot. He was leaning to the R and L due to the roof heat. This explains the widening shots to the L and R as he got hot. His first 3 shots were measured and aimed. I believe the 2nd or 3rd shot is the one that grazed Trump.

Exactly. The posters here who are alerting on the "DEI" thing -- which is a false narrative that is being driven with intention behind it -- really need to wake the eff up. They're being played, big time.
At a minimum, this was allowed to happen.

Now ask her a DEI question, and you’ll probably get the correct answer, as sickening as it might be.
In a job like this, you have to think like an athletic man or a very athletic woman.
At 18 years old, I could clear five feet, vertical, from a stand still. I would stand next to a truck loading dock, jump 5 feet up from a standstill. Getting on that building with a rifle, no problem. You put a woman in charge with zero athletic prowess, she just can’t see it.
Add that Jill Biden hired her, I doubt her mission was to protect Trump.
Incompetence doesn’t explain why they didn’t eliminate the threat or stop Trump from going to the podium when they knew for 26 minutes that there was an armed assassin on the roof with a direct shot to Trump if he’s at the podium.
This was very obviously an inside job.
The rules of engagement themselves are another point. Whoever said that a direct and immediate threat could not be taken out until AFTER they had their chance to assassinate the “protectee” basically made it so that there was NO - count ‘em, NO - protection.
Incompetence cannot explain this. This is deliberate sabotage.

They say he bought a 5’ ladder at Home Depot. But the ladder shown in the photos is 12’.
As usual with such things, we are being told a big line of crap by the FBI.
My guess is that the SS assigned the building to local LEOs, and the local LEOs decided that intermittent patrolling around the building was sufficient.
Remember, a local LEO did interrupt the shooter, which is why the shooter rushed his shots.
The counter-snipers, when they redirected their attention to the building that local LEOs were supposedly covering, but were not, did not rush.
“She didn’t expect Trump would survive.”
A lot of people thought the same. Sadly, maybe a lot of people at the Convention now.
Makes you wonder why Nikki Haley invited herself to the Convention a half hour before the assassination attempt. What did she know, what did she know it, and who invited her?
No Trump at the Convention = open convention. Easy for them to slide in Nikki.
You can "secure" the outside of a building from inside.

She won’t survive. This excuse is beyond laughable.
If by chance Biden or Mayorkas refuse to fire her, they will be the focus.

She would plead gross stupidity and ignorance on the stand—and that defense would be very convincing to a jury.
She knew nothing.
That is why she had the job.
The last thing they needed was a skilled head of the Secret Service who could have sniffed out and stopped the assassination plot.
They will let her make a fool of herself in front of Congressional investigators and then Republicans will be very proud of themselves when she resigns.
Meanwhile the real assassination plotters will walk away free.
No one states the ladder in the photo is the one purchased by Crook. Some reports say he climbed a AC duct to get on top of the building. The ladder in the photo may have been put there and used by authorities after the Crook was killed. Too many assumptions being made without facts. I am guilty of this too. We need to pause and wait for facts.
If tower sniper shot Crooks, the bullets could have gone right through the roof and hit cops inside. Of course he isn’t supposed to miss.
We sure don’t want to put our Secret Service personnel in danger. Sheesh!
