Former President Donald Trump has completely overhauled his convention speech following Saturday's assassination attempt. In an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner, Trump, who was millimeters away from being killed, will now call for a renewed effort at national unity during his speech on Thursday. Trump expressed his desire to seize this historic moment to unite the country.
“The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,” he told Salena Zito of the Washington Examiner. “Had this not happened, this would’ve been one of the most incredible speeches,” hitting at policies of Joe Biden. “Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now.”
He said he shifted his focus from energizing his voter base to demonstrating his belief that the attack at a Pennsylvania rally had fundamentally altered the election campaign. Indeed, Republicans and Democrats have recognized this change following Saturday's shocking incident. In fact, Democratic strategists who spoke with NBC News on Sunday said that the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump most certainly was the true end of Biden's hopes.
"The presidential contest ended last night," one veteran Democratic strategist said. "Now it's time to focus on keeping the Senate and trying to pick up the House. The only silver lining for Democrats is that we're no longer talking about Joe Biden's age today."
In his interview, Trump shared that people from all walks of life and political backgrounds have reached out to him. He noted that he was saved from death because he turned away from the crowd to look at a screen displaying data for his speech.
"That reality is just setting in," he said. "I rarely look away from the crowd. Had I not done that in that moment, well, we would not be talking today, would we?"

You have missed the moment. Trump never said to stop fighting, he has just realized the nature of the fight has changed.
The assassination attempt has distilled a moment in any sane voter and every low information voter, they will be terrified and coming to the table with a message of hope and unity is exactly what they need and our country needs.

He should STILL be hitting at the policies of Joe Biden.
I had the same concern. His latest post on Truth does help calm that fear some.

The whole post was in line with the harshness you’d expect from Trump.
It is his pattern of behavior. “Lock her up” before election, then let her be. Tough on crime before election, then released countless black drug dealers, after speaking with Armenian-American with big rear...
Perhaps it would be in Trump’s best interest to curtail his campaigning, certainly with the huge outdoor venues.
The TDS nuts (and, arguably the Deep State) are still a clear and present danger, and he’s pretty much made his case to the voters.
And for those who haven’t been paying attention, they likely will during the RNC.
Biden issued a veiled threat when interviewed post-debate by ABC-TV’s George Stephanopoulos. “Wouldn’t a clear-eyed political calculus tell you it’s going to be much to win in 2024?” Stephanopoulos asked Biden referring to the abysmal polls.
Biden denied he was polling at 36% approval and then issued a cryptic, veiled threat. “.....he (Trump) hasn’t been challenged in a way that he’s about to be challenged,” Biden said with a sinister look on his face......just days before the Trump assassination attempt.
NO ONE among the left will be terrified, unless they think he'll seek retribution. There is no possibility anyone conditioned as thoroughly as the "low information voter" will come to the table unless they are defeated, totally. , These morons are brainwashed to the point that they would even contemplate the benefit of assassinating Trump, or even advocate for it.
The way to assure that defeat is to hang this social disaster around their necks for their policy preferences in bold detail.
