That is what I thought. I can understand fear getting the best of him, but he could have fired his shot..
I suppose the officer climbed with the belief that there was a 99.999% chance that all was clear.
I call bullshit on this story.
I did not say it was okay.
What I said is that he likely made the shooter nervous enough to rush his shot and miss.
The cop should have ducked long enough to pull his weapon and pop up and shoot the shooter.

I believe they did see him. It appears the SS snipers had an elevation advantage over the perp. After the way law enforcement has been treated since the days of George Floyd, I believe they were too damned timid to take the shot. Ether that or they intentionally waited for the perp to take his shot.... Very bad. (?)

If you watch the video of Crooks (how apropos) shooting, he wasn't rushed. He shot in groupings, and not only that, but once he saw Trump go down he shortened up to fire on the crowd nearest him in the bleachers.
How do we know this? Because the fire chief that was murdered was covering his family (his daughter described the events to the second) when he got shot, not before.
That means Crooks was picking targets after Trump; and clearly meant to shoot President Trump and then shoot up the rally. That also explains the explosives in his car.
So they need to be sweating everyone Crooks had contact with in the past month, minimum. But given the Pennsyltucky donutchomper who took the coward's way out after discovering the perp, it'll all be one fat f-cking coverup, starting tonight at 8pm from the White Hospice.
But nothing can stop this Convention from being a coronation now. Nothing.

There is video at theconservativetreehouse.com that shows the police sniper having already targeted the shooter prior to any shots. Likely on the radio waiting for a go ahead to shoot. This hesitation nearly got Trump killed and did lead to at least one innocent bystander’s death.
This all seems very suspicious to me. So, it sounds like they were aware of the guy on the roof, and some local authorities went to investigate.
You would think that information would’ve been passed on to the Secret Service so they would’ve been aware exactly what was going on, i.e., two officers from XYZ agency will be climbing a ladder to investigate. Sounds like there was definitely some sort of communication breakdown/failure
Did “the officer” have coms with the rest of “the officer’s” department and the Secret Service? “The officer” just retreated?! WTF.

The perp was below the ridgeline of the (gable) roof until he popped over and started taking shots. As I posted on another thread (slightly edited):

In a different vid taken near the AG building one can hear the shooter’s 3 shots again, then 5 rapid, more powerful shots, a slight delay and a not-as-loud shot, another longer delay, and yet another not-as-loud shot.

It’s not “instant”.
So... I’m going to take back something I posted earlier — based on the video and especially the acoustics from the 1st link in this post, I don’t think those 5 rapid shots came from the snipers near Trump, and those shots were not the shooter. I would guess a different “asset” nearer the building spotted the shooter popping up, got sights on him, and fired those 5 shots, taking the would be assassin down. The last two shots came from yet another LEO or SS (maybe the shooter twitched?)
In this scenario the snipers on the roof near Trump did not fire the grouping of 5 shots because the shooter had already been hit by the time they recovered and got dialed in / crosshairs on the target.”
