More Bad News on the Electric Vehicle Front
American Thinker ^ | July 11, 2024 | Chris Talgo

Suffice to say, all is not well for the Electric Vehicle (EV) industry these days. Despite ample subsidies from the federal government, EV sales are slumping.

...

there have been numerous reports of people being trapped inside EVs due to dead batteries. In some of these cases, toddlers have been locked inside of sweltering cars.

In one example, on June 20, Renee Sanchez was eager to take her two-year-old granddaughter to the Phoenix Zoo. Early that morning, Sanchez strapped the toddler into the backseat of her Model Y Tesla. After closing the rear door, Sanchez attempted to open the front door. However, it would not open because the battery was dead.

...

Fortunately, the firefighters used an ax to break the back window. Then, they climbed in and unstrapped the toddler, literally saving her life.

...

this is not the first time someone has been trapped inside an EV. Nor will it be the last.

Another major concern for EV owners is the possibility of chargers catching fire. Consider what recently happened to NFL star receiver Randall Cobb, whose home burned down after the Tesla charger in his garage caught on fire.

“The Tesla charger caught on fire in the garage late last night and quickly spread. We got out of the house with nothing but the clothes on our back and no shoes on our feet,” Cobb’s wife, Aiyda, posted to Instagram. “We are lucky to be alive,”

...

EV fires are so dangerous that fire departments cannot use regular equipment to fight them.

The romance is over.

Now reality settles in.

Electric cars aren’t all bad either. They have a place. But they were massively oversold as a cure-all to fossil fuels, the future of motor vehicles, and politicians actually got behind the BS and began FORCING this lunacy down people’s throats, that’s what mandates are

Everyone of these politicians should be publicly humiliated, just like all those jumping on the Covid fad should be.

Riding on fads is no leadership trait.

It’s what highschool kids do.

WHAT AN IDIOT. She doesn’t deserve to have kids. She needs to be LOCKED UP as no sane person would ever subject their kids to an EV in PHOENIX, the hottest city in the country, and thus subject their kid to vehicle that is within a hair’s breath from its ignition point.

INCREDIBLE how dumb some people here.

I live in Phoenix. I cannot get more than two years out of a battery. It doesn’t matter what the warranty is (local dealers are used to providing free warranty replacements) or the brand (Toyota, Napa, Walmart, AC Delco, all about the same). Now, if a lead acid battery that I can swap out in 10 minutes (30 minutes in my Venture) is that touchy, why should I feel better when the whole car is based on said electronics.

If my iPhone decides to shut down for its protection in extreme heat, why should a giant iPhone on wheels avoid such issues?

Part of this is they want to be so clever and make everything purely electric.
My friend has a Tesla and was showing me that every little operation you wouldn’t expect, is electric and not manual.
And there is no physical key, just a thin credit card.

That’s just dumb from an engineering standpoint. An electric door needs a manual override.

The various new batteries they are working on and even are in production cars in China, can operate at higher temperatures.
I just watched a video on sodium ion batteries. They can handle cold and heat.

anyone else notice that almost ALL the vehicle ads on TV are for EVs, and many are for LEASES of EVs that they’re not even trying to sell anymore?

you think THAT’S bad, just think what it’s going to be like if they ever manage to sell “clean” hydrogen cars ...

I got to hear NPR the other day while tuned to a jazz station. They reported “Some vehicles still use gas engines.”

Yeah, some, like 83%....

BIDEN just announced GRANTS to the tune of $1.7 BILLION to ‘modernize’ auto plants for EV’s.

NOT LOANS-——

GRANTS

Maybe so. They aren't available here, yet. I know it might be a different technology, but don't sodium street lamps have to turn off every few minutes to cool down or something?

EV fires are so dangerous that fire departments cannot use regular equipment to fight them.

This is why I marvel there’s such push to get them people in people’s hands. If it were any other product there would instead be a push to get them out of the market until more serious research and development makes EVs safe to drive and recharge.

Lyten batteries have a pilot plant operation now.
For safely and other considerations, I hope they succeed.

I spent the first few days of this week in Silicon Valley, and was really surprised how few electric vehicles I saw.

They're a little bit more common there than they are where I live, in small-town New York State. But really not noticeably.

One thing I did see was a set of charging stations in the underground parking lot of a Whole Foods. I was amazed at the size of the conductors; they were close to two inches in diameter, and there are two of them. No wonder they're being targeted by copper thieves. They looked like they could carry more than a thousand amps. I could hear big cooling fans inside the pedestal mount.

EV sales are slumping.

Well, that's unexpected. Especially since the economy is doing so well, and consumer confidence is so high.
