WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said during his remarks on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington that it is unlikely that the 31 US-supplied Abrams tanks made much of a difference on the battlefield in Ukraine. "I'm not sure that such a number of tanks can change the situation in the battle," Zelensky said on Tuesday. In May, CNN reported, citing Ukrainian crews maintaining the M1 Abrams tanks supplied by the United States, that there were numerous issues with using the armored vehicles on the battlefield. The crews said that the $10 million vehicles did not have sufficient armor against modern weapons such as drones, thus failing to adequately protect personnel against attacks. One member said the tanks had become Russian forces’ "number one target."

If anyone thought that 31 under-armored tanks of any kind would be game changers well….
Now give them 500 of the best M1s with 2000 Bradley, 2000 Strykers and they might make a difference, but until airpower arrived, sufficient air defenses and permission to hit Russia on their territory where it hurts, you could give them 6000 m1s and the game would only change a fraction.
We are asking them to fight a war in a way we never would and some are “shocked”
What is shocking(not really) is how the “2nd greatest military “ has not defeated the little russians
I realize these are older versions of the Abrams, but is this showing a problem with our tanks? Will this lead to the Pentagon pushing for a complete replacement in the US?
All tanks are worthless on the modern battlefield.

The problem with the tanks is they are tanks.
In the era of drones and sophisticated manpads, tanks are just targets.
the Ukie war has been terrible advertisement for the US MIC.

I think these are older tanks and probably don't use the latest shells. Also, I doubt the Ukrainians get the same level of training that our guys get.
The biggest problem with the Abrams tanks is the turbine engine. It was a stupid decision to put it in the tank. I am sure it was due to a sweetheart deal for a turbine manufacturer.
I said this over 20 years ago while and during the whole time I was in tbe infantry heh.

True. We are not asking them to fight a war, we are allowing them to fight a war which, on their own, they had no chance of fighting. The Ukraine war is an tragedy, a farce, and a crime against humanity.
Maybe Zalensky needs some of these. I wonder about the availability of Lithium hydride.

The Pentagon may request this, but don’t forget how much this bunch in DC literally HATES THE MILITARY - so they won’t be getting, no way.
What they were being given was just enough to keep the Ukrainians in the fight with NATO supplied weapons so they could wage a protected proxy war that tied the Russians down in Ukraine to bleed Russian troops and attrit Russian tanks, aircraft and weapons systems.
US and NATO leaders actually bragged about how we were killing Russians and destroying Russian weapon systems for bargain basement money and all the destruction was being done on Ukrainian territory and all the dying was being done by Ukrainian troops.
We are now entering into the bad side of crazy town with Zelensky.
A month or so ago, we were told that the F-16s were useless and the Ukraine needs more M-1 tanks , Bradley fighting vehicles, air defense systems and artillery shells .
Now we are being told that the M-1 tanks are worthless and the Ukraine desperately needs F-16s
We are hearing serious Fuhrer Bunker style talk coming from Zlensky these days.
F-16 = Provocation to go Nuclear (if located in Poland, Romania, etc.)
