Tropical Storm Beryl tracker: Millions without power in Texas, flood-prone communities in storm’s path

Tropical Storm Beryl is making a slow, ruinous passage out of Houston, where it is flooding highways and knocking out power lines.

As of 3 p.m. local time Monday, as the eye of the storm moved over the western Houston suburbs, more than 2.7 million Texans were without power, according to tracking site PowerOutage.us.

Much of the already flood-prone city has experienced 5 to 8 inches of rain, with some particularly unlucky neighborhoods experiencing more than 10, according to Harris County’s Flood Warning System.

Homes in Houston’s lower-income northeast have flooded, one nonprofit told The Hill, as have many of the city’s major freeways. One man was rescued from the cab of his truck as the water rose along Highway 288. Winds ripped trees from the ground, roots and all.

I went to college in Houston. I waded thru water to my waist after leaving my car on a median.
We live in East Tx now. Today has been a rough day. We are blessed that we have power and no tree has fallen on our house.
Praying for all who had much worse day than us.

We are 200 miles inland. Still packing quite the punch. About the same winds as a strong cold front. 68 degrees and 4” of rain. I’ll take one of these every week during the Texas summer. Ha.

Montgomery County, Texas, checking in. Rain, wind, no flooding where I live. A few trees down, but not on my house or in my yard. Power out.

I have relatives in Houston’s inner loop, and in The Woodlands. In both locations, it looks like a war zone. It will take several days to restore power there. And, the weather tomorrow will be in the 90’s. The name of the game is how much generator fuel do you have stored up?

Our generator runs on natural gas, thankfully.

Lots of downed trees to clear, but, so thankful we are all safe.

When we had the big freeze here several years ago, a lot of people lost natural gas pressure because there was no electricity to drive the pumps that control the gas pressure. Just giving you the heads up.

No one in our SE TX area lost gas pressure, thankfully, during Rita, Ike, Harvey, or the Big Freeze of 2021. Not saying it can’t happen. We also have access to back up diesel generators, if ever needed.

So far, still good, here (w/natural gas) ... power is still out, in our area.

Latest estimate is earliest folks will start getting power back, is tomorrow.
