RNC adopts Trump's 2024 platform with focus on border, economy while updating abortion stance

The Republican National Committee on Monday embraced former President Donald Trump's 2024 Republican Party election platform to back his bid to return to the White House, placing a strong emphasis on the issues of border security and inflation that voters have said are top of mind while adapting its stance on abortion for the first time in four decades to recognize the reversal of Roe v. Wade.

“Only President Trump can restore our economy, restore our Southern Border, and restore America’s standing in the world,” RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump said in a statement.

Trump and RNC Chairman Michael Whatley jointly announced the party's platform committee had approved a 20-plank platform leading with promises to "seal the border and stop the migrant invasion," "carry out the largest deportation operation in history," and "end inflation and make America affordable again."

"President Trump and Republicans will reverse the Democrats’ destructive Open Borders Policies that have allowed criminal gangs and Illegal Aliens from around the World to roam the United States without consequences," the platform stated. "The Republican Party is committed to sending Illegal Aliens back home and removing those who have violated our Laws."

It also includes vows that the GOP would complete the border wall, end federal funding for sanctuary cities, and prioritize "merit-based immigration."

On the economy front, the platform furthers the campaign's embrace of cryptocurrency, vowing to " defend the right to mine Bitcoin, and ensure every American has the right to self-custody of their Digital Assets, and transact free from Government Surveillance and Control." It further expressed opposition to the creation of a central bank digital currency.

The platform further called for making permanent the 2017 tax cuts and for cutting federal regulations.

I respect your opinion.

POTUS Trump was responsible for the quote and as President for all Americans his position is fair. If we were really at the point where those were the allowed reasons for abortion hundreds of thousands of lives would be saved every year.

I posted on another thread there no country in the world where abortions are completely unlawful. I was wrong. Abortion is not permitted for any reason in six countries. Nine others allow it almost exclusively to save the woman’s life, with only some offering limited exceptions for rape (Brazil, Chile,Mexico and Panama) and grave fetal
anomaly (Chile, Panama and almost half of the states of Mexico). However there are thousand of abortions in these countries yearly.

God gave us free will. He allows people to sin, repent and be forgiven. Your position is not in line with the above. Just like prohibition didn’t end the consumption of alcohol making abortions illegal doesn’t end them. A policy like Trump’s codifies that abortions should be very rare. His growth and domestic policies create a more hospitable climate for women to keep their babies.

Thanks, straight from President Trump. It is a good platform. So much of the country has been or is being destroyed, it’s going to take a lot to restore it. This is a start.

“Big mistake to take out the issue of the pre-born. . . . Either stand for truth or sit in shame.”

Trump is becoming a politician.

Thanks.

As we found out in 2020, if we do not have Election Integrity none of the Planks in the RNC Platform matter.

The SC ruled it’s a states issue.

I am aware of that. I am simply pointing out that the Republican Party seems to have officially and perfunctorily went from a strong position on the right to life, to no position at all.

Perhaps this is a recognition of the reality of the ruling by the SC. Fair enough. That doesn't mean, however, it will have no long term effect, especially on the downstream election picture. I can conceive of candidates in those races abandoning all pretense of being pro-life since the Party as a whole has delegated the issue to the dustbin, leaving the playing field wide open for the Culture of Death who will never rest on this issue. Never.

They say that all politics is local. We will see what effect this development has in the days and years to come.

Your position is not in line with the above.

That is not a persuasive argument to me. It is a variant of the "bandwagon" argument, and "bandwagon" arguments are (almost) always offered in support of bad positions.

However there are thousand of abortions in these countries yearly.

There are thousands of murders in these United States annually. There are thousands of rapes in these United States annually. There are thousands of robberies, assaults, batteries, muggings, burglaries, breaking and enterings, scams, frauds, and breaches of contract in these United States annually. Violations of the law do not invalidate the law. Violations of the Volstead act did not directly harm anyone. Elective abortion ALWAYS harms at least one person.

His growth and domestic policies create a more hospitable climate for women to keep their babies.

No, they don't. Abortion almost never has anything to do with true economic hardship. The vast majority of abortions are "birth control with extreme prejudice".

DONALD TRUMP IS NOT GOD.

He is capable of being wrong. In this matter, he IS wrong.

On other matters, he is not wrong, and in general he is far less wrong than Mr. Biden or any other creature the democrat party is likely to nominate.

Pointing out his errors, here, is not "nitpicking". It is "holding his feet to the fire" ... something We the People need to do with ALL of our public servants.

Separate issue: Thank you for that.

Respectful disagreement on issues is a rare commodity ... we need much more of it.

They aren't gonna cut spending. Deficits and debt will expand. 2025 will be a wild circus of volatility and credit events.

Do you really think there is a snowball’s chance in hell of the USA outlawing all abortions?
You want to give the left a focus issue to defeat Trump and down ballot candidates just to posture. The citizens of America are never going to vote to ban abortions for rape, incest or serious illness in the mother (such as cancer) that would kill or maim her child were therapy initiated.

When abortions are banned they don’t stop. Guttmacher supports reproductive “rights” which means that they are biased against pro-life positions but their data strongly supports the proposition that making abortions illegal doesn’t eliminate them. The abortions on record in these countries were not created by bias.

In countries where abortion is broadly legal, there are between 36 and 47 abortions performed annually per 1,000 women, ages 15 to 49. And what about in countries where abortions are prohibited altogether? “In these countries, there are between 31 and 51 abortions annually per 1,000 women, on average,” Bearak says.
“People can be surprised by the findings,” he says, “because the rates are basically the same across the two groups of countries.”

Am I missing any statement on abortion…such as leaving its regulation up to the states, where people are closer to their legislators?

“Weakening” would be more like. Or “exhibiting pusillanimous conduct in the face of the enemy”.

Your goal runs head on into the “quit telling me how to live” streak that’s a strong part of American character.

The “enemy” ends up being voters who don’t share your conviction on abortion but who otherwise vote right of center.

When you tell them that you consider them the enemy and that you intend to use the police power of government against them they believe you. And they won’t vote for you or for your candidate.

The Left understands this. That’s why they always stir the abortion pot. It pits morality police voters against leave me alone voters. For them it’s a winning tactic.

They like nothing better than seeing conservative politicians grab onto that tarbaby. The lure of marching into battle wrapped in glorious virtue is something that they encourage. But America is not a church and its voters aren’t parishioners.

Just be quiet. Abortion is a state issue now as it always should have been. There will be some states with a more liberal approach. Some states will be more conservative. Most importantly, it will forever be up to discussion (which is a huge win) and a vote of the people. It will always be evolving in and time I believe abortion will fade away. That’s the best we could ever hope for and is a sign of progress. Relax!!!

Just be quiet.

No.

Abortion is the unjustified killing of an innocent human person.

Abortion is a greater evil than slavery.

Abrtion is a greater evil than the National Socialist German genocide.

Abortion is a greater evil than the Communist Russian mass murders.

Abortion is a greater evil than the Communist Chinese mass murders and genocide.

Abortion is a greater evil than the Communist Cambodian "killing fields". I will not be silent in the face of the greatest evil perpetrated by Man.

Do you have a habit of spouting statements and attributing them to others? Do you know what strawman arguments are?

I said precisely what I said. You got triggered and said a bunch of assumptive crap I never said, so you could get angry and argue against all the things I never said.

Outlawing abortion would cede control of an individual’s body to the State.

What would the Left do with that legal precedent?
