ProAbortion Zealots Surround Alaska Governor’s Mansion Demanding Removal of Pro-Life Flag
Life News ^ | June 27, 2024 | Joel Davidson

Several dozen pro-abortion activists marched to Alaska’s Governor’s Mansion in Juneau to demand that Gov. Mike Dunleavy take down a pro-life flag that he flies next to the U.S. and Alaska flags.

Chanting, “Our rights, our choice,” the protesters snaked through the State Capital – whooping and screaming as pedestrians looked on.

One marcher, dressed in Game of Thrones’s styled battle garb, wielded a large metal sword, which she jabbed into the air while joining the cacophony of voices railiing against any effort to protect unborn babies from abortion.

Organized by Juneau Pro-Choice Coalition, the June 22 rally took place two days before the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which struck down Roe v. Wade and let each state decide whether to ban, limit or regulate abortion.

While the ruling did nothing to change abortion law in Alaska, the activists were intent on using the lighting-rod issue to drum up leftist political fervor in the lead up to Alaska’s November general election.

The fight is not over, but we made some noise today!!!!!!!,” a Facebook post from Juneau Pro-Choice Coalition stated. “I can’t believe it be TWO years since Roe v. Wade was overturned on Monday. Crazy times….”

The physical target of the protesters’ ire was a pink and blue pro-life flag, which Gov. Mike Dunleavy flies in front of the Governor’s Mansion to affirm the dignity and rights of the unborn. Protesters called it “the anti-choice flag flying at the Alaska’s people’s house.”

Created by the Pro-Life Flag Project in 2021, the flag is now a universally recognized symbol for the pro-life movement – an image that seeks to unify, brand, and raise awareness for ending abortion.

According to the Pro-Life Flag Project website, the banner design stresses the message to “Love them both,” meaning the mother and her unborn baby. The white background symbolizes non-violence in the womb as well as the innocence of the unborn child, while two baby feet represent the humanity of preborn babies. Two pink hands represent the pregnant mother, holding and protecting her child, and two stripes highlight that there are two distinct human lives present in a pregnancy – mother and child. The stripes also form an “equals sign,” stressing that the unborn child is equally and fully human, and therefore deserving of equal human rights.

This message appeared intolerable to the Juneau protesters, who waved homemade signs as they marched.

One woman, in heavy dark makeup and wearing a low-cut gown held aloft a sign stating, “I can’t be trusted with choice, but you trust me with a child?!”

Other signs read:

“Pro-choice is not anti-life.”

“The hardest decision a woman can make is not yours.”

“Abortions save lives.”

“People you love need safe abortions.”

In a somewhat ironic scene, two young girls sitting in a stroller held a sign that read, “If you don’t want an abortion don’t have one! But leave me ALONE!!”

Democratic State Sen. Jesse Kiehl, of Juneau, used the rally to drum up support for U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola, who is seeking a second term in Congress, while campaigning on her radical pro-abortion record. He urged pro-abortion activists to volunteer for phone banks and door knocking to help elect Peltola.

“We need to turn out pro-choice, pro-freedom voters here in Juneau to tip the balance in a statewide race,” Kiehl said. “Help Mary campaign.”

The activists then resumed their chanting, “We vote pro-choice!”

Depends on where you are in Alaska. I've been to Alaska in June, July and August.

I've experienced 80+ degree days in all three months.

In fact, my last trip there in early June of '22 it was 80 degrees or warmer five days in a row. That was in Juneau and Anchorage.

I don’t live in Borrow but had friends there. Always interesting that middle of July is only 50f. That does not matter the Eskimos (that are my friends) go out and jump into the ocean, that is a heat wave!

It was well over 80 in Fairbanks today and yesterday. It’s not too uncommon. Although there’s a lot of Alaskans that bellyache about it! Not me! I soak it up and save it for winter!

The last two times I was in Alaska, the locals commented that temps in the 80's weren't common, but weren't "rare" either. Especially when it was 5-7 days of such temps.

I was SO LUCKY to be there in good weather in late May through early June, and again in late July into early August. Sunshine the entire time, no rain, both trips. That's also not common as I understand.

An acquantaince was in Alaska (same towns, same trip) a week before I was, she said it rained the entire time. I had great weather the following week.

That’s the way it goes up here in the Northland! Glad you had a good trip. I feel bad for so many tourists when the weather is bad. I know how expensive the trip is.
