They’ve already killed at least one person in Arizona.

Couldn’t agree more - unrestrained freedom is a jungle. We have too much freedom to do stupid and harmful things and not enough personal consequences for doing stupid and harmful thungs.

Singapore may be a bit strict, but we are way, way too lose.

I disagree. When you trade your liberty for security, what happens when those that provide your security violate that trust. 30s and 40s Germany shows us the example. What the writer fails to understand about the U.S. is the compact our founders entered into for our liberty has been broken by our corrupt contemporary politicians and the globalist deep state. Our liberty has become and illusion and our security has been destroyed.

The difference is whether it is just the wealthy being free or everyone.

Singapore has plenty of rec drugs for the wealthy although they’re strictly banned as one of many examples.

The idea that these authoritarian nations that don’t contribute jack to the advancement of mankind are superior is hate America leftist garbage.

We’re too loose as meme makers and pride flag burners get hard time.

The avg American citizen unwittingly commits on avg three felonies a day and we have insane incarceration rates for non-violent criminals-greater than the authoritarian nations and somehow it’s too loose.

I get it though, no matter how egregious the govt has been curtailing freedom, licking boot tastes good.

Loose=

70-85% voluntary mask compliance when the expectation was 25-35%.

We live in a nation of conformist, compliant sheep while individual creativity, imagination and innovation + capital is what created American exceptionalism.

Yet I read over and over and over again desire for even greater conformity and even greater loss of liberty.

Lee Kuan Yew is not the best guy to admire.

This writer’s premise is flawed that leftist progressivism is freedom.

This writers view is exactly in line with Kristoff’s in fact. They make the same argument: blue states are richer, as if that’s the be all end all.

Materialism is all.

Brother to brother, I can tell you that you do not understand anything about what is going on. And understand, I do not say that like you are dumb, or clueless. I would be in the exact same boat, but I got into the arena and became active and threatened to rise in prominence. There is the most professional intel op in the world, running the biggest psyop ever on everyone and it has fooled everyone.

The US right now, is the most repressive dictatorship you have ever seen. And due to the psyop being run on everyone too busy making a living to get involved, nobody can see the real government.

I could go on, about the guy who I guarantee you is down the street, who has listened to your most private moments in your home, simply because he has been assigned a few hundred people to do that with, I could tell you without a doubt surveillance has tracked you at some point in your life, but there is too much. Click the link in my tag if you are interested. It costs me money, but the more people who know about this the better for the nation.

Liberty is a slippery slope. We conservatives should not have gone all in on liberty in the 20th century.

“something has gone badly wrong where we’re in charge, from San Diego to Seattle”

Why has your team been winning so many basketball games lately?

Uh...the ball goes through the hoop more.

define *higher standard of living*.

Until maybe 60yrs ago-

standard of living=living space, access to calories, access to medical care.

When they figured out that the US poverty stricken enjoyed a higher standard of living than most of the rest oif the working class world, the definition was changed.

The results are graphic in this thread from soup to nuts. Ultimately, up became down and the Cubas and Singapore are held out as examples of superiority while the leftists can live in their densely packed tuna cans and pretend that is superior.

This moron is so deluded it’s difficult to know where to begin. I write him off as a completely lost cause, fit only to scribble for the NYT.

But there is a very American tendency to overindex on freedom.

Only as long as "freedom" benefits the goals of The Left.

As soon as "freedom" has played its role in breaking down society, you'll see The Left impose its opposite.

We got a taste of that during COVID.

Nicholas Kristof really is a fool. In fact to call him "a fool" gives him way too much credit.

Much of the reason that GDP per capita is higher is due to large companies that in some cases have been around over 100 years are based in blue cities.

JP Morgan is based in New York. It was built by JP Morgan, who wouldn't resemble anything like a modern day leftist. Modern day leftists would hate JP Morgan, although they have no problem taking credit for the GDP his bank generates when they can use it to claim their ideas are superior.

It’s more like “ what have we liberal Democrats done to the entire country “

Kristol neglected to mention that one because like all the bi costal “Elites” he could care less what happens in fly over country

The geography is a little off. Metro areas across the country all suffer from the same problems, including flyover country and Texas. All are the result of the same far-left governance. SF, LA and Seattle are just worse because they effectively have no check on the socialists.
