HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An updated forecast shows not only could this hurricane season be active, but the possibility of storm impacts in southeast Texas is much higher than in the past.

Colorado State University not only predicts how many storms there could be, but the percentage of where they could go. One of those chances is the possibility of a named storm impacting an area.

According to the report, Texas has the fifth-highest possibility of named storm impacts, behind Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Georgia.

Across Texas, it's 80% - nearly 20% higher than the historical average.

They are just now getting the memo? This was known in February.

Breaking news - Texas may get hit by a hurricane this season. Hasn’t happened since way back in 2023. Proof of global warming.

These people cannot get the hurricane forecast right 24 before the event, but they are spot on when it comes to forecasting the entire season. Riiiiight, got it.

Does anyone bother to keep score of how often these predictions are correct? Are they even news worthy?

The people of Padre Island are already well aware......just more hurricane fear porn.

If you want a laugh watch the weather channel.....there’s a couple of breathless soy boys that try to get us all to believe we only have hours to live.......and then there’s Jim cantori......what a freakin’ drama queen. SMH

And of course they assign a probability, but the outcome is binary, so no one can claim they were wrong in hindsight.

Remember kids, real science makes falsifiable claims. Unless it's Climate Science™, in which case it's exempt from that requirement because reasons!

“Does anyone bother to keep score of how often these predictions are correct?”

Weather forecasters and sports prognosticators......both great gigs if you can get one.....you don’t have to be right and nobody remembers it.....much less holds you accountable.

Having spent a lifetime in Florida, I can attest that the hurricane predictions for the season are rarely right. It’s almost fifty/fifty. Long term climate trends, even just months, let alone decades, are as reliable as a coin toss. Yet we’re supposed to dedicate all of our wealth to lower CO2 a fraction of one percent while India and China would swamp all of that decades long progress with their one-month output.

Texas has about 400 miles of coastline, so yes, there is some possibility that a hurricane will hit somewhere in Texas. Of course, Florida is almost completely surrounded by water, which strangely enough seems to be a huge magnet for hurricanes.

1) Something might happen.
2) And it might happen in several places.
3) Be afraid.
4) Eat more bugs.

There are always threats of hurricanes hitting Texas, and Louisiana, and Mississippi, and Alabama, and Florida, and Georgia, and south Carolina, and North Carolina, and Virginia, and Maryland, and Delaware, and New Jersey, and New York, and Connecticut, and Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, and Maine, and Washington State, and Oregon, and California, and even Hawaii.

But the Gulf states, and the southeastern Atlantic states are always the most vulnerable targets.

So, they can predict all they want, but their predictions are not based upon anything, other than the most often hit spots.

Damn! I thought for the first time ever there would be no Texas hurricane this year. Must be climate change.
