Republican strategist says Latinos are the new "Reagan Democrats"
axios ^ | 06/11/2024 | Russell Contreras

A growing part of the Latino electorate is relating less to the Democratic Party and more to the GOP because of blue-collar economic issues, an anti-Trump Republican consultant says in an upcoming book.

The big picture: The gradual shift makes Latinos the new "Reagan Democrats" — moderate Democrats in the 1980s who supported President Ronald Reagan — and may change assumptions of race and politics that both parties aren't prepared to face, author Mike Madrid argues.

Zoom in: Madrid's "The Latino Century: How America's Largest Minority is Transforming Democracy," is set for release on June 25 by Simon & Schuster.

The book is based on Madrid's three decades as a GOP political consultant in California and his observations of how Latino voting patterns have shifted — often confusing both parties. The former Lincoln Project member decided to write it after seeing Democrats and Republicans repeatedly misreading Latino voters and ignoring their concerns. What they're saying: "Republicans are winning this (Latino working class) vote despite their best efforts, not because of it," Madrid tells Axios.

I am not buying it. I have to see the votes to believe it

Maybe male Latinos are getting there. Republicans are pretty much locked into the minority women voters they are going to get.

The day will come when the male-female split will be pretty much across all racial lines.

I’m sure plenty of latinos don’t even grew up in Spanish speaking homes at this point. They probably don’t have much connection to their grandparents “old country”.

No need for little Marco on the ticket. Dr. Ben would have a calming effect on the black voters as they come home to the GOP.

If this is ever shown to be true, expect a southern wall to go up in about a week.

These folks are happier in their old age due to a close knit family structure. I’d say it’s a good time to come up with a new SSI plan for the young ones.

The votes don’t matter. We won’t see anything resembling the real ones. The Democrats and media just declare victory and say it was because of abortion. But Hispanics are very much turning away from Democrat roots as the party goes more nuts. It’s a social fabric thing. Very good for society.

“I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally,” Ronald Reagan said in 1984.

The day will come when the male-female split will be pretty much across all racial lines.

Then the Democrats will need to import even more voters from the Third World and get them papers ASAP!

Funny how since then this epic criminal invasion, all emboldened by those in government, is STILL the leading political issue....It just got worse and worse, all directed and produced by those in government.

It was a Hispanic man who didn’t speak English who convinced me eight years ago that Trump was going to be president. We were in a room where a news channel was covering a Trump speech. The man shot me a look and gave a cautious thumbs up. I grinned and nodded. We bonded.

The young Hispanic families I see are like families were in the 50 and 60s. Well behaved kids, neatly groomed, quiet and hard working. Pretty sure many are church-goers too.

These are really the “Trump Democrats.” Just look to South Texas. Rs already won one of the three congressional district. I bet they end up with all three by the end of the decade.

Fine you don’t buy it, but Trump is hunting votes where the hunting is good.

Out on the West Coast you’ll never change the voting patterns without getting the Hispanics to vote Republican.

The arrogant college educated whites of both sexes are a “lost cause” in California, Oregon, & Washington.(Woke ideologues from dusk till dawn.)

Cubans, Venezuelans, about half the Ricans in Florida (not in the northeast though), as well as a large minority of Tejanos. Hispanics vote more GOP than Asians btw.

I have seen Hispanic moms and dads look like they came out of a telenovela. Some of the women would make me lightheaded.
