Americans are still grumpy about inflation and pointing fingers. That's bad news for Biden.

Inflation was muted last month, but plenty of consumers are still grumpy about high prices — and many say the government is primarily to blame.

That’s according to recent research distributed by the National Bureau of Economic Research. Economists surveyed about 3,000 adults to gauge their understanding of the causes and consequences of inflation.

It’s a big problem for President Joe Biden, who has faced historically low approval ratings of his handling of the economy.

Inflation — and Americans’ pessimistic view of it — amounts to “one of the most punishing and damaging domestic setbacks of any president in the last 50 years,” said Larry Jacobs, a political scientist at the University of Minnesota.

“Even though objectively you could say the damage of inflation has receded…. I don't think that matters,” he said. “[Biden] keeps wanting to say, ‘Give me credit,’ and the country’s not in the mood.”

Inflation is caused by governments. Will the mushy middle learn in time? You gotta admit there was none 4 years ago so can the voters put 32 and 2 together? Sometimes an 8 year administration can make people complacent.

The damage hasn’t receded when people are choosing between housing and food. Inflation continues to rise.

Awww! We’re grumpy.

“Failed Trump Policies Lead to Inflation Disaster for Vulnerable Populations” would be the headline if the shoe was on the other foot.

Receding inflation is one concept, if in fact it has. What has NOT receded is the increased prices.

“Even though objectively you could say the damage of inflation has receded . . ."

Uh, no. The damage has not receded. The prices are permanently higher than they were a few years ago. Substantially higher. People have adjusted and are grudgingly accepting it. But the damage is done, and has not been undone.

Grumpy? In most cases that is a colossal understatement.

This demented imbecile has slept and crept along the national and world stage not only embarrassing himself, but this rapidly sinking nation as well. He is unhampered by everything especially the Congress.

Russian warships are in Havana harbor now rekindling a friendship that puts them 90 miles off our shoreline. Perhaps they/re readying their forces to seek revenge for our wholly financing the weaponry used by the Ukraine against them. Yet we tolerate a blithering imbecilic moron to run our nation’s security. Why is this man in the White Hut? As in the Caine Mutiny he should be removed along with his camel-faced sidekick. They hate us and this republic!

Everything that’s wrong in today’s America is the fault of the Obama-Biden duo and Obama’s lieutenants who are directing Junkyard Joe.

Most people’s standard of living is lower than it was when Trump was in office.

They’ve noticed.

"still"

Why wouldn't they. They're "still" paying a lot more for things.

Our Congress used to be able to stop Obama. Now they're failing to do the same with the Biden Administration.

Quit being grumpy.

“Grumpy” has the connotation that being pissed off over ever-rising prices is somehow irrational as is ‘pointing fingers’ at Brandon. It seems we’re just too thick to appreciate the amazing economy that Bidenomics has brought us.

the line between ‘grumpy’ and ‘politicians decorating lamp posts’ is very fine and not ascertainable in advance

Grumpy is a poor description. Bleeding might be a better word.

The May 2024 Consumer Price Index was released this morning.

All of you will be thrilled to discover that inflation in May was 0.0%.

I am happy to report that I have maintained my sense of humor, even though my rent will increase 10% on August 1.

My rent in Seattle - up 30% in three years.
