Arkansas Republicans vote to hold closed primaries, critics voice concerns on rollout

Leaders with the Arkansas Republican Party are telling voters they will need to officially pick a side before the next time there is a GOP primary.

During the party convention over the weekend, Arkansas Republicans voted to pass a rule change that will require anyone casting a ballot in a party primary to be a registered Republican.

Arkansas voting access group sues state over recent ‘wet signature’ rule

Jennifer Lancaster, the new chair of the party state convention, said the intent of the move is the keep Democrats or other outside votes from casting a primary ballot for the “least conservative” candidates.

Lancaster also noted that other states that have made this kind of move, like Florida, have seen benefits that appeal to more conservative voters by moving to closed primaries.

“For those people who look to Florida and like what a lot of their politicians like Matt Gaetz and DeSantis do, if conservative voters are wanting to be more like that, I think it’s important they understand why it’s so critical we have closed primaries,” she said.

It’s lunacy that non-republicans are choosing who the republican party nominates as candidates. (per state where applicable)

Agree! This will TOTALLY anger the Zeepers, as they rely on RINOs to continue the Neocon War in Ukraine.

I’ve never understood why it would be any other way.

I don’t get to vote on issues before the board of directors of companies I don’t own stock.

It’s a party nomination. Not a general election.

This problem is so simple...

When Republicans ask state governments to pay for Republican Primaries, Republicans have to play by government rules.

When Republicans pay for their own Primaries, we can play by our own rules.

Open primaries are like a baseball game that lets all the players on both teams vote for your starting lineup.

New York, for one.

What would be the point of a party primary where you don't have to be registered in that party to vote in its primary?

In 20 states, at least one political party conducts open primaries for congressional and state-level offices.

In 15 states, at least one political party conducts closed primaries for congressional and state-level offices.

In 14 states, at least one political party conducts semi-closed primaries for congressional and state-level offices.

A positive development.

Do away with primaries all together. They are a fairly recent innovation. They give the Media more power, and take it from parties.

But they're not. Why? It's part of the fraud.
