NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (WOIO) - The 3-year-old boy who was stabbed at the Giant Eagle Monday afternoon has died from his injuries, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner. He was identified as Julian Wood.
The stabbing happened just after 3 p.m. in the grocery store parking lot on Lorain Road in North Olmsted.

The child’s mother, Margot Wood, 38, of North Olmsted, was also stabbed.
When North Olmsted police arrived on scene, several officers immediately gave first aid to both victims.
EMS transported Julian and his mother to St. John Medical Center, where Julian died from his injuries.
Margot was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and police said she is expected to physically recover.
Captain Eric Morgan said other officers located the suspect walking towards Dover Center Road, still carrying the kitchen knife used in the attack.

It sounds like the Detective has already declared the motive as a "random act of violence".

Were the mother and child white? The perp is black. If so, could this be becracially motivated? Is it a hate crime?
This is incident is, among other things, another result of our catch-and-release justice system. From the article:
“According to Det. Sgt. Beck, Ellis was arrested May 30 after officers investigating an incident at Walmart discovered she was wanted for a probation violation.
She was held and released.”

What I want to know is what did the mom do to “diss” the perp? Was she not respectful enough? Did she look at the perp wrong? Was she being arrogant by loading groceries into her SUV? Child too white?
I mean, there’s gotta be a reason.
If you are a woman 1) get a handgun you can use and are proficient with 2) get a carry purse, train with it and carry it ANYTIME you are traveling 3) practice situational awareness, with hand in your purse whenever you are walking 4) take classes and study your state law to know your use of force and conceal carry requirements 5) if you are in a communist state, move within 6 weeks.
These are the minimum requirements if you care about yourself and your family. No one else cares.

Some folks will have nothing to do with guns. Not the best approach, but it is what it is. For those folks, I suggest strong, police-grade pepper spray. Fox and Sabre are good brands. Both are available on Amazon.
Pepper spray is legal in all 50 states. But some states have canister size restrictions. So you gotta do a little research.
And one more thing. At a minimum, watch a few YouTube videos on the proper use of pepper spray.

HUH? That doesn’t make sense - no arraignment? Prelims don’t usually begin that fast. I think someone made a mistake in the reporting. Has a record but not for violence? Catch and release there, I guess!

Also but on another note, CAUTION! stores that sell acids and other caustic liquids really need to know who is buying them and for what purpose. Acid attacks carried out on the streets were popular in the UK a few years ago and they may well become popular here in the US, especially in schools. God help!
