Vermont’s Republican governor has allowed the state to become the first to require oil companies to pay for “costs associated with climate change” without his signature, pushing the law through despite his hesitation about the policy. S.259, passed by Gov. Phil Scott (R) on Thursday, will establish a method to assess the responsibility for greenhouse gas-related costs of any entity that was engaged in extracting fossil fuel or refining crude oil between December 31, 2019, and January 1, 2000.

Sure, but in this case if that can’t happen the oil and gas companies are just going to pass on the cost to the consumers.
Leftists are incapable of understanding how their ridiculous policies play out in the real world.

Let them freeze when the climate changes in November.

Child’s play.
WA State has a carbon credit auction that all industries must by into to “offset” the carbon production associated with their businesses.

How do you determine if storm damage was due to oil or not?

If the oil companies don’t have the guts to leave Vermont and California, they deserve what that get. But at the end of the day, neither Vermont of California will hurt the oil companies no matter how much they tax them. The oil Companies will just pass the cost to other parts of the Country where the taxes are not as high.

Then don’t sell them gas/oil. See how well Vermont does at that point. Next Winter should be interesting.

You are used to seeing the earlier date listed first. There are twenty years difference between January 1st, 2000 and December 31st, 2019. Check it again, it’s 2019, not 1999.
