Vermont’s Republican governor has allowed the state to become the first to require oil companies to pay for “costs associated with climate change” without his signature, pushing the law through despite his hesitation about the policy. S.259, passed by Gov. Phil Scott (R) on Thursday, will establish a method to assess the responsibility for greenhouse gas-related costs of any entity that was engaged in extracting fossil fuel or refining crude oil between December 31, 2019, and January 1, 2000.

No wonder the Newharts sold the inn and moved out of Vermont.
Well, as far as legal documents and so forth usually go, there are probably two seconds between them. Those would be the seconds between 11:59:59 pm on Dec. 31 and 12:00:01 am on Jan 1. Those are the common times that things usually begin or end whenever time is mentioned in a document.
A lot of climate change can happen in two seconds.
No wonder the Newharts sold the inn and moved out of Vermont.
You’re dreaming.
Looks like minus 20 years to me, that’s a lot of negative global warming.
When you have many $millions invested in a producing field you can’t just “stop producing there”. You have contracts to pay for leased equipment and to deliver product well into the future. It’s not unusual for wells to go through periods of income and loss. As I read it, this particular rip-off has been calibrated to not hit too hard at first but it will later. Some of the best paying jobs in the state may go away over time.
Yep...my first thought...shut down all operations in Vermont that may make oil companies liable under the law. Let them do without for awhile...they will change their minds. It’s awful cold in Vermont in the winter....
No. A democrat who ran as a republican and betrayed his voter base.
VT is so cuckoo liberal that Stalin is a centrist and anyone to the right of him is *hard right*.
This is the state that gave us Bernie Sanders and Howard Dean. Vermont also was the first state to legalize gay marriage.
How much would it cost the oil companies to stop delivering any products (gas, heating oil, etc) to the state? That’s what they should do.
IT is 20 years...
2000 ==1 year
2019 == 19 more years.
They stated it backwards
I had to read it 3 times before I caught it. AND-— I DO ACCOUNTING.
>> The easiest thing to do is cut off all the blue states from oil and gas
YES!
They should THANK us for doing so! Here ya go! Shiver in the dark, hungry, if that’s what you want.
Absolutely! Heating oil is especially!
The “OIL” companies should ask themselves one question.
How would I handle this if it were 1964?
I’ve long thought to myself when someone tells me “I’m from Vermont” that I’m talking to a weirdo.
Vermont is left like most New England states are.
Been there a few times (work related) didn’t like it.
The oil companies need to wait until the Arabs and Muzzies pay Vermont their share first and then refuse to allow any of their products to be sold in the Vermont sh*thole.
They also approved digital currency legislation.
The Republicans in congress fund every Obama biden agenda without hesitation.
Vermont Becomes First State to Force Oil Companies to Pay for ‘Climate Change’, forcing the price of petroleum products to go up in Vermont.
Consumers love it!!
Karma is about to hit Vermont.
And both those days were holidays. Nobody was working.
