Vermont Becomes First State to Force Oil Companies to Pay for ‘Climate Change’
Breitbart ^ | 5/31/2024 | Olivia Rondeau

Vermont’s Republican governor has allowed the state to become the first to require oil companies to pay for “costs associated with climate change” without his signature, pushing the law through despite his hesitation about the policy. S.259, passed by Gov. Phil Scott (R) on Thursday, will establish a method to assess the responsibility for greenhouse gas-related costs of any entity that was engaged in extracting fossil fuel or refining crude oil between December 31, 2019, and January 1, 2000.

Stupid. Neither cars nor "big oil" caused the Modern Warm Period. Even though the law is retroactive and looks at one year in the past (year 2000), oil or gas businesses doing business in Vermont this year have real reason to worry that they'll be punished in the future for year 2024's "greenhouse gas".

Don't be surprised if all oil and gas companies quit doing business in Vermont.

The easiest thing to do is cut off all the blue states from oil and gas

Then don’t sell them gas/oil. See how well Vermont does at that point.

It’s just a shakedown.

Once the government uses up this money they will move on to some other sector. Vehicle manufacturers, the lawnmower industry, gas appliance manufacturers, etc.

One thing that won’t be a target is themselves, even though they use and consume all the above.

Funny how that works.

Oil companies should with draw all their products from the state and quit selling them there. Other more friendly states will gladly take their portion.

“Don’t be surprised if all oil and gas companies quit doing business in Vermont. “

Which is exactly what they should do. They should do the same for Hawaii.

......between December 31, 2019, and January 1, 2000......

Am I wrong in thinking that there is zero time between those two dates?

The people of Vermont elects these fools. They deserve what they get, then. I guess they figure they’re all hardy and stuff and built for the COLD outdoors so let them experience it without energy backfall to overwhelming, continued bad weather when it comes. Go chop some wood and make a fire.....eat some bugs.

I’ve done the calculations.
The “costs associated with climate change” is $0 per gallon of product.

Howz about the oil companies just refusing to provide any of their products to that silly little turd state? We’d greatly enjoy watching them freeze to death in the dark.

all costs added by the state should raise the costs to consumers on an equal basis on a state by state use of the product, can you say 10.00 a gallon gas on Vermont.

The users pay the cost for the product, economics 101.

That's why the term Uniparty was created.

They're two sides of the same coin.

Bad guy vs seemingly “good guy”.

BS. They're all the problem, underwritten by their permanent staff that really runs the show in D.C.
