I caught the very end of the reef laying ceremony at the Tomb. Saw Biden walking up the stairs into the building at the top, just above the tombs, he did so without stumbling. The Fox announcer said that Biden’s Memorial Day remarks would be made later.
What a tribute to him. He deserved it.
Jerry Wallace said that Murphy called him up about 2 a m one morning all excited about a new song he had written. It was “Shutters and Boards” and Wallace recorded it and it was a hit.

Audie Murphy earned a Medal of Honor, a DSC, two Silver Stars, a Legion of Merit, 2 Bronze Stars, 3 Purple Hearts, a (French) Legion of Honour, four French Croixs de Guerre, a Belgian Croix de Guerre, and a battlefield commission in the War against Hitlerism, and still managed to come home to the US before his 21st birthday.
If the Anti’s had their way, he wouldn’t have been able to buy a Ruger 10/22 .22-caliber rimfire squirrel rifle until he turned 21.
Thank you for this tread. I remember how upset my father was when the plane crashed, and in our own state. His comments at the time caused me to pay attention and learn who this man was. It was hard to see old movies back then, but I ended up watching his starring performance in the red badge of courage. He made a big impression that I’ve never forgotten

I had to look it up - he did speak at 11 am or so..guess we all missed it - too bad! Picture of him with Kamala, Austin and an Army general.
Spoke about losing his son 9 years ago this week - but did say “not on a battlefield”.
He’s going to Normandy in a couple of weeks for the D Day observance....
TV channels used to run 24 hours of WW II movies too, but poor pickings today.
