Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine leaned on a distinctive chief executive power Thursday evening, ordering state lawmakers back to Columbus for a special session Tuesday and Wednesday to pass legislation that puts current U.S. President Joe Biden on the November ballot.
A similar proclamation hasn't been put out by an Ohio governor in nearly 20 years, but DeWine said the situation at hand warranted the extraordinary measure.
It follows weeks of back-and-forth, after the Ohio Democratic Party was notified that the Democratic National Committee convention is scheduled later than Ohio's legislative deadline to certify candidates. DeWine called out fellow members of his party for not passing a proposal to change the 90-day deadline.
“Ohio is running out of time to get Joe Biden, the sitting president of the United States, on the ballot this fall,” DeWine said... “This is a ridiculous, this is an absurd situation.”
The stated purpose of the special session, however, also tasks lawmakers with passing a GOP-backed proposal banning foreign contributions to ballot issues. Democrats have called it a poison pill. House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) and other Democrats took to X—formerly Twitter—on Thursday night, asking for a clean bill.
“Political dysfunction has been the only road block to providing a legislative solution to ensuring Biden is on the ballot,” Russo wrote. “If we’re serious about passing something, it needs to be a clean fix.”
Fast-tracked versions of the dark money language have cleared the Ohio Senate three times since February, most recently on Wednesday. The Ohio House has its own version.

In staunchly-red Alabama, lawmakers unanimously advanced a change to their deadline earlier this month. Washington is seeking a provisional certification from the Democratic Party, but Secretary of State Frank LaRose told Ohio Democrats that path isn't allowed under state law.

DeWhino calling back the legislature and them failing to get enough votes for Brandon to be put on the ballot would be sweet on so many levels.
If they end up passing something to bail out Pedo Joe, they better attach the 2 tranny bills the DeRino vetoed earlier this year.

Someone should tell Governor Dewino that is it not his job nor the state legislature’s job to get Joe Biden on the ballot in Ohio. It is Joe Biden’s and the Democrats’ job to comply with Ohio state law or face the consequences of not doing so.
Joe Biden and the DNC knew the deadlines but ignored them. That is their problem not the legislature’s problem.
I hope the legislature comes into session and impeaches and removed Da Wino for his outrageous actions.
So they only need this extra session because the Democrats blocked earlier GOP offered fixes. Dems voted for no Joe, unless no dark money fix. I’d be pissed to have to back to the capital for a special session because of Dem intrangency. They could have this before. So expand the attached dark money fix, which the GOP majority can enforce. And provide just enough GOP votes for the combined final bill so that it can pass, but only if every Dem votes for it. In both houses. So if the bill gets voted down and Joe needs a write in campaign (he’ll lose either way) that the GOP can point to all the Dems responsible for Joe not being on the ballot.
They’ll gladly change the name on the ballot “to be fair” you know.

Voinovich, Kasich, DeWine. I’m so sick of the Ohio GOP running and electing RINOs. The same RINOs run for state offices every time. It’s like musical chairs — HEY — it’s my turn to run for (Fill in the Blank). JD Vance was the first new face we have had in years.
