Might the former President pick the wrong Florida man for his ticket?
Florida’s senior Senator may not offer former President Donald Trump as big a boost as some other potential running mates might … including the current Governor of Florida.
That’s the takeaway from the new Harvard-Harris Poll, which finds voters want Gov. Ron DeSantis and not Marco Rubio on the ticket.
DeSantis leads a host of potential picks with 12% top-choice support among the electorate, including 23% of Republicans, 7% of no-party voters, and 4% of Democrats.
Rubio has 4% support but just 3% among Republicans, 4% among no-party voters, and 5% among Democrats. He trails U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.
Rubio would offer a net boost for the ticket, with 27% of respondents saying they’d be more likely to vote for him and 17% saying they’d be less likely. However, the pollster didn’t test the same question with DeSantis for unknown reasons.
With the electorate at large, Rubio is above water in favorability, with 36% saying they approve of him and 33% disapproving. But that doesn’t even make him the most popular Florida Republican nationally.
That honor goes to DeSantis, at +6 with 43% approval against 37% disapproval.
DeSantis has ruled out being Trump’s running mate at various points for over a year, making the question moot unless the Governor is reconsidering his position amid a thaw with the Trump operation.

I wouldn’t pick Rubio.
Maybe DeSantis.
We need DeSantis as a governor.
How about neither?
Preferred by who?
The RINO Brigade?
In Florida maybe.
we need DeSantis right where he is, Carson is a better pick
He’s 1000/1 to be VP.
Strongly preferred!
Well, I’ve seen enough of these Trump VP threads on Free Republic , to have learned that there is something wrong with every potential nominee.
Every nominee has pluses and minuses and we will have to live with who Trump chooses.
Rubio is an establishment, beltway insider. He is not going to fundamentally change the District of Corruption. He’s been too McConnelled.
God the MSM/demoshits are desperate to have a say in PDJT’s plans. They know he’s gonna win BIGLY.
DeSantis adds nothing to the to ticket. Any votes he would bring Trump would get anyway. I hate saying but the ticket needs someone for the blasted women vote.
Trump is a populist. We need a conservative for VP and for the future. DeSantis would fill that role pretty well.
No one wants Rubio as VP, except perhaps Mrs. Rubio.
DeSantis needs to stick to FL and prepare for 2028.
Trump needs a VP who can be his attack dog (or female dog, IYKWIM), someone who isn’t necessarily going to move on to the Big Office. Chip Roy, or Harriet Hageman if the candidate needs to be female. Somebody who has already gotten used to being the St. Sebastian of a thousand arrows, and who can make Kamela look like the sluttish idiot she is.
Sarah Sanders or Byron Donalds.
We have to win voters from the middle.
Neither DeSantis nor Rubio (nor Vance) can do that.
Forget looking beyond the November election for anything.
ONLY the election matters.
“DeSantis adds nothing to the to ticket. Any votes he would bring Trump would get anyway. I hate saying but the ticket needs someone for the blasted women vote.”
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
This. And only this.
elon musk for vp...
our turn for an ineligible african-american in the mix...
” I hate saying but the ticket needs someone for the blasted women vote.”
IDK. Probably. But PDJT seems to make it work, whichever way he decides.
ps: Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
If two Florida residents are on the ticket, the electoral votes from Florida may not be counted for both the president and vice president.
From the Constitution, Article II, Section 1:
The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons, of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves.
The same prohibition is included in the 12th Amendment:
The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves;
I like Ron
but does he get any extra votes for Trump? I just want Trump to pick a VP that helps him get more votes in states that he needs to win.
I have no polling information on this so I can’t really even guess who would be a good pick for him.
