Robert F. Kennedy Jr. targeted Donald Trump over his administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, as he spoke to Libertarians during the party convention on Friday.
Kennedy argued that the former president and his administration had violated people’s First Amendment rights when they instituted health guidelines to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
“I think he had the right instinct when he came into office. He was initially very reluctant to impose lockdowns, but then he got rolled by his bureaucrats. He caved in, and many of our most fundamental rights disappeared practically overnight,” Kennedy said at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington.
“President Trump allowed his health regulators to mandate science-free social distancing, which undermined our First Amendment rights to freedom of assembly. We could no longer peacefully gather,” he said later.
Kennedy’s comments marked one of the most pointed set of remarks against Trump yet. Though Kennedy is widely seen as a long-shot contender between Trump and President Biden, recent polling has suggested he could be a spoiler for Trump in November.
Kennedy used much of his speech accusing Trump and Biden of infringing on Americans’ rights and constitution freedoms, saying he would do more to protect people’s rights to free speech and right to assemble.
Both Kennedy and Trump are slated to speak at the convention, with the former president delivering remarks on Saturday.

He may make comments on this tomorrow night when he addresses the Libertarian conference.
Some of us think so:-
Alex Jones: Good news! Trump won't put up with new Mask or Vaccine mandates as president
People laughed him off here and I do NOT support him, but look at this possibility:
1) Average person says “I’m a good person because I voted against Trump last time and he’s evil like I saw on the news panels. That kept a new Hitler out of power.
2) Biden is losing it and is scary to think about for 4 more years and I can’t stand that Kamala Harris.
3) Instead of Trump, I will vote for RFK Jr. I feel good about myself.
Trump is not a disease specialist; he has to rely on the “experts”. As head of the NIAID, Fauci should have been able to be trusted. Only later did we find out he’s crooked. This do not fall on Trump.
“President Trump allowed his health regulators to mandate science-free social distancing, which undermined our First Amendment rights to freedom of assembly. We could no longer peacefully gather,” he said later.”
Hot diggity is RFK dead right on this!
Freedom of assembly VANISHED.
Tomorrow night will be interesting as he will speak to issues relevant to Libertarians. And that won’t include RFK Jr.
RFK is flat-out wrong about this. Trump wasn’t “rolled” by anyone. He was advised to make decisions for purely political reasons because he would lose the election if he didn’t “do something” to deal with what has become hysterical Branch Covidian idiocy.
The political advice he got was probably sound. Anyone who doesn’t believe that should keep in mind that some of us will never forget how many simpering, pathetic losers we had to deal with right here on this website back in the spring of 2020.
Trump should have only one goal in mind here. And it’s not to trade accusations with RFK Jr. It’s how to handle him such that he (RFK Jr) draws more votes from Biden than from Trump.
Perhaps Trump could slyly label RFK Jr as the true successor to FDR and JFK. Biden is a fraud. RFK Jr is the real deal.
Vote for RFK Jr, traditional Democrats!
Nobody in the Federal government issued any lockdown orders in 2020 that violated anyone’s constitutional rights.
🙃
Trump was placed in a horrible position but he’s wiser now.
Trump should just come out and promise to appoint RFK to be the “crisis management czar” in a second Trump administration. The end.
He needs to tell the story and spill the beans. I think he might tomorrow night
Covid was deliberate...just like his uncle.
Yes it should be a very interesting speech I am looking forward to it
Color me unshocked.
Neither candidate has a particularly clear libertarian streak.
So that’s great , rfk! Now let’s do Uncle Teddy and the rest of your disgusting, criminal family......
Mary Jo’s family would prolly like to have a word with you.
Just the fact that ANY Kennedy is anywhere near government makes me sic. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM should’ve all crawled back under the rocks from whence they came a lot earlier than when drunk Ted allowed that girl to drown.
Imagine if Biden had accepted their invite!
“Trump is not a disease specialist; he has to rely on the “experts”. As head of the NIAID, Fauci should have been able to be trusted. Only later did we find out he’s crooked. This do not fall on Trump.”
Exactly right. Trump is a businessman, not an infectious disease expert. He had government medical advisers who should give trusted advice. They didn’t. In that sense, RFK is right that Trump got “rolled.”
But Trump is wrong to brag about the rollout of the WuFlu vaccine. It is nothing to brag about. He should just say he relied upon his advisors who should have given him straight advice and not lied to him. And then say that those who were guilty of being involved in the engineering of the virus and the coverup will pay a price.
He shouldn’t have pushed them for the better part of the last four years—or gone along with trampling our constitutional rights. But by voting for Trump, we hopefully go back to the peace he enforced and the MAGA/constitutional position gets at least heard loud and clear. (Unfortunately I see him as controlled as well, but at least it’s not the same as directly handing the keys back to Biden’s puppeteers.)
Also Trump took a strongly federalist approach. It was governors mostly calling the shots. (pun unintended)
