Six years ago in a book prophetically entitled “Famine 1975,” William and Paul Paddock warned that world population growth was outstripping food production and that an international food crisis was probable by the middle of the decade.
...
It appears that the Paddock brothers’ prophecy for 1975 could begin to become a reality as early. as 1974.

Both cults are still in existence despite the disappointment. /snicker
Thomas Malthus probably could never have dreamed that he’d have so many adherents to his dangerous philosophy so far into the future.
Add in the coming Ice Age, acid rain, the cold war, the vanishing ozone layer, that was all predicted during that time and the world as we knew it was supposed end.
It was Hugh and Series
Paul ehrlich and “ZPG” comes to mind.
Paul Ehrlich rather famously lost a large bet with Julian SImon on resource scarcity.

Well we aren’t doing anything to negate the possibility. Turning arable farmlands into forests (for Climate Change!) and turning corn into automotive fuel (heavily subsidized, inefficient and does nothing for the environment) and any other idiotic idea they can think of. Whether it’s intentional or unintended, one day we will be left with fewer food choices due to rising (intentional) fuel costs and less farmland.
My elementary school days were filled with mandatory plays and shows depicting the death of us all due to pollution, overpopulation, and nuclear fallout. That was in the early 70’s. Those children now run investment funds and hold positions in public policy. They ain’t stupid, just unethical servants to global tyranny, looking to get rich.
Yes. Malthusian Fallacy.
Was reflecting on this sort of thing this morning. I mused, “Why did they lie to us about everything, beginning with Darwinism? Is it because they love us? Because they want the best for us? Impossible. It’s because they want to disable our intellects in order that we will destroy ourselves. In other words, they want to destroy us.” Those “mass depopulation conspiracy theories” are just like all other conspiracy theories: they are tomorrow’s headlines. /imho
and yet we have an unprecedented epidemic of obesity.
Winds up that Wheat production increased by an order of magnitude thanks to hybridized versions. Only problem is that it has given much of the world obesity and diabetes as a byproduct.
Elementary school in the 60’s was a piece of cake compared to that. All they had us do is train for nuclear bombs exploding, creepy siren noises and hiding under our desks.
THIS! OMG this is an absolute grand slam.
Ummm, I don’t think wheat did that. I think the fat person did that.
Wait, live till, 40 years from now when CO2 parts per million have continued to increase and “climate change” is not destroying human life on earth.
4th grade we still had to duck and cover under our desks. By 5th grade that was fading from our routines.
Well given the current demographic realities China, Korea, Russia and most of Europe won’t have many people to feed.
Bucky Fuller spoke and wrote extensively against Malthusian doctrine. Bucky pointed out how tools, machines, and other technologies allowed us to "do more with less"...
...which process he called "ephemeralization".
Bucky was right. Malthus et al are wrong.
Well, of course. This was before our benevolent world elites decided we should eat bugs and recycled toilet paper. That should extend our earthly stay another 20 years.
