Elementary school in the 60’s was a piece of cake compared to that. All they had us do is train for nuclear bombs exploding, creepy siren noises and hiding under our desks.

4th grade we still had to duck and cover under our desks. By 5th grade that was fading from our routines.

I remember those days! Biggest scare we had was in October 1962 when the Cuban Missile Crisis was upon us. Pushed to the edge of nuclear war! Then it all blew over.

Suddenly it came back! TV programs were broken in to report that NORAD has seen an unidentified flying object coming in over the DEW Line! Was it Russian missiles? A sneak attack! The pucker factor was strong that night!

Then they showed a real chintzy copy of a photo of Santa Clause with cotton ball clouds flying by. It was Dec 24.

We could not decide whether to be relieved or mad for the scare given us.
