But we have a NATO general saying Russia doesn't have the numbers or the capability for a strategic breakthrough.

That may, or may not be right.

There is zero chance of a successful counteroffensive. There wasn’t last summer either. Just more carnage.

The Ruskies will confiscate all the weapons we’ve been giving the Ukes.

Rumor is that the Ukes had to transfer about 30 battalions worth of troops up north.

Looks like the Ruskies are going to be playing local offensives up and down the line to keep the Ukes moving.

The cost of one Zelensky yacht could have mined half of Kharkiv.

Ukraine’s Maginot Line is about to crumble

Doesn't a "Maginot Line" imply there are fortifications present?

speaking of NATO, I still suspect that “operation defender 2024”, that operation announced at the start of 2024, running thru end of May, would make some Ukraine noise.

There is Defender24 news now and then, but just mundane operational stuff. Hard to imagine an op that size (33 nations, 90,000 troops) is really just a run of the mill exercise without a deeper intent.

I thought the Maginot Line was actually well constructed. The only problem is that the Nazis went around it.

The problem with the Ukrainian "fortifications" is that typical oligarchic corruption meant more money went to government officials than dragon's teeth, minefields, and trenches.

“Kyiv must relearn the art of defence.”

It’s a bit late for that.

So far, with an attacking force reported at somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 soldiers Russia has managed to move the line of contact from the Russian border 5 miles into Ukraine.

That's not much of an offensive.

Maybe instead of funneling millions to fake companies they should have used those millions to build a better defence...

They walked across a no mans land. UKR had only a small groups of troops because it is not possible to defend that area due to the flat terrain. 5-10km past the grey zone is the 1st UKR main defense line.

The Russian cannot hold the land they crossed because they cannot be resupplied, as UKR has fire control over it.

During recent combat the Russians suffered the usual heavy loses of men and armor. Mostly due to UKR artillerry and drones. After a week of fighting, the Russians only reached 2 areas near the small towns Vovchansk and Bugruvatka.

The troops stationed in the grey zone did a fighting retreat in good order, as reinforcements were brought up to the main defense lines.

As Putin said yesterday, they have no plans to take Kharkiv
