Hamas needs to be understood as a criminal organization with whom negotiations are absurd, and swift action against, is the only reasonable response.
Reuters reports that “Hamas says it will not compromise further with Israel to win Gaza ceasefire.”
It’s just another headline about the heirs of Yassir Arafat; we know better than to take the statement seriously. Hamas will keep talking as long as they can, for obvious reasons.
The people engaged in negotiations, at least, if not their foot-soldiers, are safe while they’re at the negotiating table.
But there’s a different question that ought to be inspired by that quote: Why is any kind of compromise even an issue?
In a normal war, between two legitimate governments, one hopes for negotiations, discussions, compromises, whatever it takes to bring an end to hostilities.
This is not a normal war.
Israel has a legitimate government, and Hamas is a crime gang full of the most brutal of homicidal maniacs. This isn’t so much a war as it is a police action; Israel finally has the political will and the public support to wipe out a powerful criminal gang that has spent 35 years attacking and terrorizing Israeli citizens.
What does Hamas say, every time they return to the table? That they want Israel to stop shooting at them and give them lots of money and resources, which everyone knows Hamas will then use to make more rockets to shoot into Israel.
It’s what Hamas does. It’s what Hamas always does. It’s Hamas’s raison d'être.
Think for a moment about the most horrific crimes you can think of in American history.

The problem with Hamas is that they use the Gaza civilians as human shields. But, the citizens support Hamas so aren’t they just getting what they voted for?
Just after Biden stops arms shipments to Israel.
Hamas has offered no compromise with Israel what so ever
They put forward irrational terms in bad faith which history shows they have no intention of abiding by.
They haven’t made any.....................
there are no hostages to release.
israel mus release the dogs of war and end this by next tuesday.
Die then. Works for me. I’m sure Bibi agrees, too.
I still think cash to individuals and members of small groups for hostages is something worthy of consideration.
Individual and small groups of Arabs love lots of cash just as much as you would.
Will evil people get such cash? Yes, but there is a lifetime to bring justice to each evil person.
Hostages each have only one life, which can never be recovered once it is lost.
Wipe Hamas off the face of the earth. Leave no trace. Whatever collateral damage to “innocent” “palestinians” is required, is acceptable.
Hamas was making concessions? Who knew?
As far as anyone could detect from the outside, Hamas made no significant concession up to this point. Maybe on the shape of the negotiating table, or something.
A lot like dealing with North Koreans.
Yasar Arafat played the game this way. I remember photos of him in a tank facing Israelis. I would think for the sake of peace, I would come to the table and negotiate, but if all you have is hate and want to kill the other person. There is nothing left but to face down the Big Gun.
A sample of HAMAS’ proposal:
“In the Hamas proposal, as has been widely noted, it no longer commits to freeing 33 living hostages in the first stage — itself a concession by Israel, which had sought 40 living hostages in the first stage — but now says the 33 hostages may be ‘alive or dead.’”
It is not at all evident that HAMAS has control of even a majority of hostages.
I suspect most of the hostages were snatched by small groups.
American Thinker never fails to begin practically every contribution with faulty syntax.
Regards,
Who weren't Hamas?
They have lots more problems than one. Hopefully, all of their problems will be solved when Israel wipes them out.
Evident?
There is no evidence that there actually are any of the captured people alive at present.
“Hamas says it will not compromise further with Israel to win Gaza ceasefire.”
That’s Hamas speak for:
“We don’t have any live hostages (or hostages that could be interviewed by the media) that can be returned now in trade for ceasefire.”
Then they die.
