The Biden administration tried to argue Thursday that if Israel launched an ambitious attack on Hamas in Rafah, that would strengthen Hamas, improve Hamas’s leverage in hostage negotiations, and build popular support for Hamas.
Israel launched a limited operation in Rafah this week, near the Egyptian border, as it prepares to take on the final four Hamas battalions in a town that is viewed as the last stronghold of the terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that an Israeli military campaign in Rafah would “actually weaken … Israel’s security.” He also said that the U.S. had presented Israel with “a full range of policy choices” that would achieve the same goal of dismantling Hamas without entering Rafah, but did not explain what those choices were.

When he says that it would “build popular support for Hamas” I think that what he really means is that it would hurt him here at home politically because the Pro-Hamas protestors would turn against him.

Right- wiping out the leadership and what are said by the IDF to be 3 remaining battalions of Hamas fighters, wiped.. that would strengthen Hamas? Think again joeypoopbags. Wiping them out and getting most importantly their other major data/server sites underground... would strengthen Hamas?
No, what joebags is worried about, more precisely the derp morons who have been supplying Iran and Hamas... is that the database of computer info there will EXPOSE to the Israelis just how deceptive they have been and how they have lied about ‘backing’ Israel as an ally. Pretty obvious they are trying to put humpty dumpty back on the wall after his egg has cracked.
When the enemy is cornered, and is being stomped through the cracks, I suspect there is little leverage left. Except for the dark money pushing the agenda, there is really very little sympathy for Hamas, and no popular support once the usefulness of Hamas is obliterated.
