~ Hall of Heroes ~ Archer T. Gammon Info from here. | | Archer T. Gammon (September 11, 1918 January 11, 1945) was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration the Medal of Honor for his actions in World War II. Gammon joined the Army from Roanoke, Virginia in March 1942, and by January 11, 1945 was serving as a Staff Sergeant in Company A, 9th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division. On that day, near Bastogne, Belgium, he destroyed a German machine gun position before beginning a one-man assault on a Tiger Royal tank. He silenced a supporting machine gun emplacement and killed two infantrymen before he was killed by a shot from the tank. For these actions, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor a year later, on February 13, 1946. Gammon, aged 26 at his death, was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Danville, Virginia. | Staff Sergeant Gammon's official Medal of Honor citation reads: He charged 30 yards through hip-deep snow to knock out a machinegun and its 3-man crew with grenades, saving his platoon from being decimated and allowing it to continue its advance from an open field into some nearby woods. The platoon's advance through the woods had only begun when a machinegun supported by riflemen opened fire and a Tiger Royal tank sent 88mm. shells screaming at the unit from the left flank. S/Sgt. Gammon, disregarding all thoughts of personal safety, rushed forward, then cut to the left, crossing the width of the platoon's skirmish line in an attempt to get within grenade range of the tank and its protecting foot troops. Intense fire was concentrated on him by riflemen and the machinegun emplaced near the tank. He charged the automatic weapon, wiped out its crew of 4 with grenades, and, with supreme daring, advanced to within 25 yards of the armored vehicle, killing 2 hostile infantrymen with rifle fire as he moved forward. The tank had started to withdraw, backing a short distance, then firing, backing some more, and then stopping to blast out another round, when the man whose single-handed relentless attack had put the ponderous machine on the defensive was struck and instantly killed by a direct hit from the Tiger Royal's heavy gun. By his intrepidity and extreme devotion to the task of driving the enemy back no matter what the odds, S/Sgt. Gammon cleared the woods of German forces, for the tank continued to withdraw, leaving open the path for the gallant squad leader's platoon.
| The USAT Sgt. Archer T. Gammon which served the United States Army at the end of World War II was named in his honor. | Please remember the Canteen is here to honor, support and entertain our troops and their families. This is a politics-free zone! Thanks for helping us in our mission! |

The kind of day you enjoy - - cool and cloudy. A little more rain would have been nice but two out of three ain’t bad. :-)
It was cloudy here, too, but didn’t rain until this evening. There were a few thunderstorms scattered here and there but nothing severe. Might get a little more in a few hours from the wave that’s moving into west TN now.

Yes, and since it was cool and dampish, it might keep that rain we had from evaporating too quickly. Tlhat is a plus!
I hope the storms don’t get too bad, and I hope you get some of the lightning you love to take pictures of!

Yes, if there’s some humidity in the air, it’ll slow down the evaporation a little. I imagine your lawn’s happy after the double watering yesterday.
Nothing severe in the round of rain coming through tonight. Tuesday and Wednesday have severe weather threats though.
It WOULD be nice to get a few good lightning shots. :-) It’s been a while.

We sure did and now we will see what happens today with the weather.
As you can see, our area is now in the Level 4 or Moderate risk. A lot of the internet, radio and TV weather forecasters are saying this could be a major outbreak later today.
So, we'll see what happens.
"Numerous severe thunderstorms are expected to develop and move eastward Monday afternoon through Monday night across parts of the southern/central Plains. Multiple intense, long-track tornadoes, very large to giant hail, and severe/damaging winds all appear likely."

The rain was a blessing, because our city water has so many chemicals in it, I just know it can’t be good for plants. It tastes like crap. LOL!
I can’t believe how much rain you have gotten this year already. Your yard must look like the tropics. 🪴🌳

Yes, I’ve seen the forecasts and it doesn’t look like a fun day ahead. All we can do is hope things don’t get as bad as they expect.

Yeah, rain is a lot better than city water any day. Nasty stuff, that is.
I’ve had around 6 inches of rain each month so far this year. Only had 5 inches in Feb. When I mention there was rain, it isn’t always a lot. Yesterday was an inch. Tonight was .1.
But the place is very green, no doubt. And this time last week, the corn was maybe 2 inches tall and now it’s close to a foot. It’s very happy with the rain we’ve gotten.

It’s not going to be long before you have that wall’o’corn that you love to muffle all the train/car noises. That’ll be nice. Till it causes allergies. LOL!
I think I’m going to finish up this show and head out. I’m getting really sleepy now. I got up before the alarm. What was I thinkin’! See ya tomorrow!

I’m looking forward to that beautiful wall of corn. It’ll be a little rough when it pollinates but that doesn’t last long, unlike cotton.
Sleep well and sleep late. I’m not far behind ya.

You got the title wrong.
It’s “Trans of Brothers.”
More recently we had the “Gender sPacific” and “Masterbators of the Air.”
