Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) said Tuesday on CNN’s “The Lead” that there is no difference if House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) or Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has the top spot.
Host Jake Tapper said, “House Democratic leaders took an unusual step today. They announced that if needed, they would save the speakership of Mike Johnson, the very conservative Louisiana Republican if individuals like Marjorie Taylor Greene and others tried to oust him. How are lawmakers responding to that?
On the steps of the Capitol, congressional correspondent Manu Raju said, “Yeah, it’s mixed views here, Jake. I mean, we do expect a wide number of lawmakers are probably overwhelmingly to vote to kill that effort oust Mike Johnson. This is much different than what happened in that historic and unprecedented ouster of Kevin McCarthy last fall when all Democrats voted to kick out Kevin McCarthy along with eight Republicans. This time we expect an overwhelming number of Democrats to save Mike Johnson.”
Boebert said, “We are passing the Democrat agenda each and every day that we’re here. We have a slim majority in the House and everything’s being passed overwhelmingly with Democrat support. So, it makes no difference to me if it’s Hakeem Jeffries as speaker or Mike Johnson right now.”

There’s a bill in the Senate right now that’s been waiting for the time when dems have all 3 branches. I believe it’s titled Senate bill #1 or something and it’s written by Schumer’s staff. The bill cancels all of Trump’s tax cuts and raises taxes across the board. It’s a real poison pill for the American economy, so of course, democrats can’t wait to pass it into law. It would be the first order of business if they get full power.

After reading the replies to this thread, I have realized how many of my FRiends have given up and have decided to become whiny losers. Defeat and a hope of rebuilding under the Dim- controlled government. A poor choice for the future.
Yes, the GOP has serious problems conceding to Dims, but don’t do it. Don’t just give up.
Hakeem Jeffies is a communist, and the rest of the Dims are right behind him. We need to fight back, a little at a time, sometimes, but don’t just start saying that it doesn’t matter. A small forward progress is better than defeat.
Don’t support any move that gives the people who want to “ fundamentally change” our country an ability to do that.
Even if Jefferies won the speakership the Repukes would still have more votes. When they don’t control the house they are able to say no because they’re all a bunch of phonies. The Repukes would be better in the minority as things currently stand. They could block anything if they votes as a block.
We’re headed towards 40%+ of GDP being collected in taxes just like much of Europe and over twice what they have collected since WWII in our country.
