The Alvin Bragg case has gotten grander at trial, but also more ridiculous.
The Manhattan DA has a meaningless business-records misdemeanor wrapped within a theory about an alleged Trump conspiracy to defraud the voters by denying them disparaging information before the election and obscuring, after the fact, the payments that were used to do so.
Bragg is accusing Trump, in effect, of stealing the election.
He, thus, joins all the other progressives who have denied the legitimacy of Trump’s 2016 election, although he finds the culprit not in Russia (at least not in this case) but in the shady maneuverings around Stormy Daniels.
If this is the standard by which we judge elections, we need to go back and conclude that Bill Clinton wasn’t elected legitimately in 1992, either. The Arkansas governor’s political operation was, in part, an elaborate conspiracy to keep women who alleged to have had affairs with Clinton quiet. Hillary Clinton was an active participant in the schemes. And so, by Bragg’s logic, this Democratic power couple — dominant in the party for a decade or more and still honored today — comprises election thieves.

He sat on a lead and managed to lose. A year is an eternity in politics.
He was elected to continue Reagan’s policies, but he immediately went over to the RINOs.
Who’s approval did he have? Fox News and Carl Rove?
That may be true. I know Bush I’s approval rating was in the 90’s after winning the Gulf War.
Feb 1991
The point Lowry is making is that, once again, Trump is being prosecuted for something that was once standard practice for Democrats --putting a lid on dirty laundry.
It's also noteworthy that this is coming from Rich Lowry and the National Review. They at NR are no fans of Trump but they understand these lawsuits are still a bunch of kangaroo court BS nonsense.
Anyhow, it's a good piece. A trip down memory lane that so many have forgotten.
Yep. Say what you will about GHWB, but America in them days was great.
I liked him a lot back then. I was 14 in 1992
So many here didn’t bother reading the article.

Oh, I’m sure we read the article, but we couldn’t get past the headline. Such an obvious misstatement commanded our attention and clarification.
I remember Clinton encouraging Ross Perot to get back in to siphon votes from Bush.
I remember Larry King show producer patching through George Stephanopoulos on a call in for citizens to ask George Bush questions on his show days before the election.
I remember all the efforts to quell the “Bimbo eruption”, Note that Clinton paid Paula Jones waaaaay more than Cohen paid Stormy Daniels.
I remember Clinton’s “Mr. Fixit”, David Kendall, who went around pressuring women to sign affidavits that Clinton hadn’t sexually assaulted them.
+1
Good one.
I use BeelzeBubba.
I think the reason Thurgood Marshall retired was that he thought Bush was sure to be re-elected. That gave Bush the chance to nominate Clarence Thomas for the “black seat” on the Court. If Marshall had stayed on the Court until his death, Clinton would have picked his replacement.
Clinton paid Paula Jones for something that really happened. Cohen paid Stormy Daniels not to make a false allegation (that many voters would have believed).
Oh wow. Thanks for that update on the Bush/Thomas appointment.
Lots of people like to rag on Poppy (deservedly so), but he did a lot of good things as President.
In spite of that, many FReepers preferred the Clinton Dynasty over the Bush Dynasty.
lol. Bush lost that election being stupid.
“Read my lips ...”
I hadn’t even heard of FR in 1992. I don’t know what you mean.
I mean many Freepers today admit - to their shame - they voted for Perot in 1992 effectively giving the election to Clinton.
And they would do so again today.
Clinton Biden Obama Carter JFJ the democrat party doesn’t play nice or honestly.
I question their every move we the people never win in their actions.
