Columbia University failed to bring disruptive anti-Israel protests under control Monday, as hundreds of protesters openly defied the school’s 2 p.m. ultimatum to vacate the campus encampment or face suspension and loss of access to dorms and class buildings.
“We will not back down,” student leaders proclaimed in a statement before the deadline expired.
As the deadline ticked away, hundreds of protesters remained on campus, beating drums and chanting slogans like “free, free, free Palestine” as they marched, beat drums and lounged around the tent city.
Police sources told The Post Monday afternoon that busloads of NYPD officers were standing by if summoned by the university. However, administrators had not asked cops to move in to remove students from the $90,000-per-year campus as it did April 18, during which 108 demonstrators were dragged away in cuffs.
Cops are not allowed on campus without authorization from the university.
In a statement to the student body Monday morning, embattled Columbia president Minouche Shafik made a final plea with student protesters to “voluntarily disperse” from campus, vowing to consider exploring “alternative internal options” to bring the crisis to a close.
[President]Shafik made clear that the protesters’ main demand — that the university divest from all companies that do business with Israel — was off the table.
The school also distributed notices around campus promising students amnesty from punishment if they turn themselves in to officials by the deadline and commit to obeying university policies...
According to the Columbia Spectator newspaper, students slapped with an interim suspension for flouting the deadline will be restricted from using all of Columbia’s “campuses, facilities and property, including all academic, residential and recreational spaces.” Students gather for a rally in support of a protest encampment on campus in support of Palestinians, despite a 2pm deadline.

Come see the violence inherent in the system!
I think if the university decides to classify the tent city as a special event then there own rules on fire and life safety would apply and I doubt it would pass any inspection by the university.
I volunteer so long as I get to play as a member of the Ohio National Guard.
Charge them, Jail them, and expel them.
WHat is the problem here?
Kent State....
Two little known facts.
Student Chrissie Hynde was watching the protest. Yes, later became the famous singer of the Pretenders. She thought she heard firecrackers. And the Guardsmen “looked about 19 like us.”
Also Gerald Casale who later was the bass player and singer in Devo was observing. Later came over to see exit wounds in Jeffrey Miller and Allison Krause who had been his friends.
No you don't. The Ohio NG, IIRC, was an assemblage of ill-trained weekend warriors with poor leadership. I doubt the rules of engagement were fully disseminated to the soldiers.
I wasn't an infantry officer, but one of my extra duties was titled "Augmentation Reserve Force Commander", basically a platoon leader of 40 soldiers formed to support a local Nike Hercules battery should terrorists attack. We issued live ammunition before leaving the motor pool. I was involved with six of these "ARFs", and I gave refresher training to my Air Defense Artillery soldiers.
The point I'm trying to make is I made sure my soldiers understood the rules of engagement, and what to expect. It takes on an entirely different dimension when live ammunition is issued. My soldiers were great, there were no accidents or rounds discharged during any of those exercises, which took place during Nuclear Surety Inspections, a rather tense environment.
Has anyone considered that Iran uses the money that jarrett sends them to hire thugs to pose as students? They use Soros’s kid as the middleman.
They want to be treated “just like white people.”
White people who break the law are punished.
So do it.
It was great.
Al Capp was a master at humor and the speeches he was personally giving on college campuses opposing the Communists, anti-war thugs, and immoral hippies were extremely effective. The Left had to do something!
So they accused him of sexual peccadillos with some radical female students. There was little evidence but lots of Leftist outrage, demonstrations, and violence. The resulting moral uproar by the Leftist media and their propaganda organs was deafening. They bullied most newspapers to suspend his comic strips immediately. His reputation and livelihood was ruined by the manufactured "scandal" and associated lawsuits and he quickly went bankrupt and faded from the scene. It was a 1960s version of being "Donald Trumped" except Capp was not financially able to fight the Marxist mobs and media..
At least that's how I remembered it.
From what I’ve heard, the Israeli army would use suppressed Ruger 10/22,s to kneecap the protest leaders.
Imagine the smell!
Yep. They know the university officials are cowards who will back down.
I’m gonna guess less then 50%.
it’s much worse than that: applications to the anti-semitic ivys are way down, PARTICULARLY amongst jews, who are fleeing to safe universities in the south and are finding out that the conservative south isn’t at all like they had been brain-washed to believe ...
if this goes on long enough, the ivys will find zero new jewish students applying ...
Private property doesn’t apply to the fire Marshall.
I’ve seen them chain the doors and kick everyone out of the building and anyone that entered was going to jail.
This was in a walmart in florida
A light mist of diesel fuel over the area would send them home. First one to cook a bratwurst would burn the entire compound to the ground.
Tell the professors to take attendance the next two days.
Send the cops in and note students arrested.
Fire every professor that claimed those students were in class to protect them.
Done.
Rambling Man.
NEVER HIRE A STUPID WOMAN TO DO A JOB !
How about Wild HOGS?
