After the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022, delegations representing Moscow and Kiev engaged in several rounds of peace talks, including in Turkiye in March 2022. However, it was revealed in 2023 that former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had urged Kiev to avoid signing any agreements with Russia and instead focus on continuing the proxy fight.
Russia and Ukraine were closer than ever to concluding a peace treaty in April 2022, but the Kiev regime rejected several of Moscow’s demands outright, German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag revealed.
Specifically, terms regarding the status of the Russian language, and Kiev’s official rejection of Nazism were seen as unpalatable by the regime led by Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the 17-page draft peace treaty between the sides obtained by Welt.
It follows from the draft, agreed during negotiations in Turkiye on April 15, 2022, that Moscow and Kiev reached an agreement on the basic conditions for ending the conflict, but there were some unresolved issues that were to be discussed personally by President Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky in the same month. That summit was never to take place.
“Countless lives” could have been spared if this “advantageous” deal had been concluded, the outlet stated.
Since the beginning of Russia’s special military operation, Ukraine’s military has lost almost 500,000 people, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated on April 23.
Welt cited a member of the former Ukrainian negotiating team as calling it, in hindsight, “the best deal we could have had."
NATO Off the Table
First of all, in line with Article 1 of the draft treaty, Ukraine committed itself to "permanent neutrality." Thus, Kiev was to abandon ambitions of membership in a military alliance, including NATO. The ensuing 13 sub-points of the first article outline the extensive definition of neutrality.
Ukraine agreed never to "receive, produce......

Sorry, I don't believe that. I'm not a supporter of Ukraine, but this sounds like Russian propaganda.
There's much lies and propaganda from all participants -- Russia, Ukraine, Britain, the U.S. I don't automatically believe anything that anyone of them says.
Me either.

I don't follow what is reported closely because I never know what to believe.
Except for Ukraine losing control of its foreign policy, requiring Ukraine to allow adoption of Russian as an offical language in certain areas to the detriment of ethnic Ukrainians living there, treating promotion of Ukrainian culture, customs, and identity as a sordid crime to be punished and eradicated, the terms were just dandy, in a boot-on-neck sort of way. Boris Johnson must be the diplomat of the millenium to have convinced Ukrainian nationalists to spurn a dreamy deal like that...
Kiev wanted to hold onto its right to make the Russian language illegal, and to protect Nazism. Then they murdered one of their own negotiators. Kind of a cool way to make their retarded point.
Just for fun, the entire nation including Zelinsky was Russian speaking. Ukrainian was a boutique language, sort of like Gaelic, welsh, or Navajo. People learned it to show how cultural they were. But it wasn’t some new concept that Russian would be spoken in Ukraine along with any other language.
But ethnic cleansing was very important to the Reich. They wanted to erase the language, and kill as many people in the Donbass as they could for the crime of not going along with the Kiev coup.
And they could never agree with anything vilifying nazism. Gotta have that Bandera Avenue, got to use Nazi symbols on your military uniforms, gotta name your battalion after Oscar Dirlewanger.
What’s even more ironic, the present Commander in Chief of the Ukraine military, Oleksandr Syrskyi, was born in Russia, to Russian military parents. His parents and siblings all live in Moscow
He ONLY speaks Russian, as he speaks the Ukrainian dialect very badly
I could find posts I made saying exactly that last from the very beginning of this war.
In war, the first casualty is the truth.
Ukraine is over with come November. Biden won’t need the distraction anymore, whether he wins or loses.
“Kiev wanted to hold onto its right to make the Russian language illegal, and to protect Nazism. Then they murdered one of their own negotiators. Kind of a cool way to make their retarded point.”
Basically, the Nazis were (and still are) our Brownshirts in Ukraine as we were working with them LONG BEFORE Zelensky was thinking of running for the presidency, and, obviously, being Nazis, they needed to ‘purify’ the country as they consolidated power. Basically, we had (and still have) a gun to Zelensky’s back, and certainly knows such.
I think the fact that the negotiations had gotten as far as they did had to do with the Neocons believing their own propaganda that Ukraine was ‘just another land grab by Putin’, and based on that, the Neocons NEVER believed that a deal could be reached.
They were, of course, wrong, and so the Neocons had to block further developments in that direction.
If Bandera Avenue is ok, would love to see the reaction if a group in Belgium tried to create a Rue de Leon Degrelle.
Those are just the ostensible reasons.
Reading is fundamental.
“Welt cited a member of the former Ukrainian negotiating team as calling it, in hindsight,“
Sam Cooper is connected to five eyes intelligence. So yeah, I’m sure he’s debunking a Ukrainian official who was in the negotiations who says the British derailed the talks.
He sent me the article and said that it was accurate.
Russia has broken every treaty they signed with Ukraine.
. Ukraine knew that Russia couldn't be trusted, that they would, simply, consolidate gains, reorganize and attack, again.
There was never a treaty, to end the war, waiting to be signed.
Sorry, I don't believe that. I'm not a supporter of Ukraine, but this sounds like Russian propaganda.
I don’t like either one of them and I agree that sounds like Russian propaganda.
The ones making the big bucks off of this travesty are the ones stopping any sort of peace settlements, IMO.
No, they rejected it because the CIA told Boris and Joe that the sanctions would defeat Putin.
