Trump defends House Speaker Mike Johnson amid ouster threat: ‘Trying very hard’
The New York Post ^ | 04/23/2024 | Josh Christenson

Posted on 04/23/2024 9:13:03 AM PDT by thegagline

“Look, we have a majority of one, OK? It’s not like he can go and do whatever he wants to do,” Trump, 77, told radio host John Fredericks on Real America’s Voice Monday night.

“I think he’s a very good person. You know, he stood very strongly with me on NATO,” added Trump, referring to a campaign rally in which he urged member states to pay more for their common defense — or he would let Russia “do whatever the hell they want.”

“I think he’s trying very hard,” the 45th president concluded.

Johnson (R-La.) bucked the majority of his conference on Saturday and joined with 210 House Democrats to pass $60.8 billion that will assist Ukraine in its war against Russia.

*** “Mike Johnson’s speakership is over. He needs to do the right thing, to resign, and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated,” Greene said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Two other House Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Paul Gosar of Arizona — signed onto a motion introduced by Greene to vacate Johnson’s speakership ahead of the vote.

All three cited Johnson’s failure to secure the US border amid the growing migrant crisis, while Massie accused the speaker of getting run over by Democrats during recent negotiations on government spending. ***

Trump is a master. Obviously he feels Johnson is someone he can get to work with him.

Never forget:Trump accomplished more for Americans in a 4 year term than any President in your lifetime.

I’m saying...both parties are allowed to vote...and that 200 Republicans did not vote for it. And that’s the way it went. You seem to think everyone should have voted like YOU want them to vote...and that’s just plain ......

Trump can’t change or force anything, here. He did say the EU should be doubling anything we give, and they aren’t.

Trump is hoping what cover he can throw toward Johnson will mean Johnson will help him on Trump’s critical items, when that comes.

I have to admit I do not understand Trump’s support for Johnson, BUT it must be part of ‘the plan’, nothing else makes sense

Oh, please. With Trump, there is no "plan." Being the malignant narcissist that he is, Trump is just about Trump, that's all.

Electing Trump is a potential means to an end. Trump himself is no end at all.

Your response to dpetty is uncalled for. He raises a good point. Is Trump capable of doing anything wrong in your mind? You sound like an idiot and add insult to injury when you trash a fellow freeper and the best Gov this country has at the same time. Get a life.

Folks, we are in the middle of a bloodless coup.

This coup started before November 3, 2020.

“We have put together I think the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.”  ~ Joe Biden. October 24, 2020.

What makes you think Johnson will last that long? Massive and Greene may well succeed in ousting him.

I don’t live in fantasy land but what’s the alternative to that as well.

Let there be disruption and dissent onward MTG, Thomas Massie, Tucker Carlson and the list goes on.

Those are good questions Trump is asking. Thing is - he should be asking them of Johnson and demanding an answer as to why Johnson is acting outside of MAGA.

Trump is always a big fan, until it can no longer be denied.

I could list 50 names.

He liked Fox, and then said he wasn’t going on Fox anymore.

What Trump knows, what we all know, is that If Johnson is forced out and Jeffries is the new Speaker - chances are near 100% that he will push and get passed a vote convicting Trump of Insurrection. Effectively ending his campaign.

There is no “good” time to remove Mike Johnson from the Speakership. His supporters will use the same excuse after the election that they used before the election. Fear of turning the house over to the Democrats. Fear. Politicians love using fear to bludgeon the electorate. It’s very effective.

Johnson’s supporters on this site were saying the same thing about McCarthy. They said that removing McCarthy would lead to Hakeem Jeffries being Speaker. They were wrong.

Oh be nice to dawg. You know Angry Trumpers like him can’t help themselves. Any time Trump says or does something they don’t like - they blame DeSantis.
