Mike Johnson may have to choose between Ukraine aid and his job
The Economist ^ | April 11 | The Economist

Spare some pity for Mike Johnson, the stuck speaker of the House of Representatives. A relatively obscure congressman thrust into leadership six months ago when the ungovernable Republican majority threw out the former speaker, Kevin McCarthy, Mr Johnson may be defenestrated too if he does something that he seems to think that he must: provide additional military aid to Ukraine, over the objections of the isolationist wing of his party.

While the European Union and its member countries have contributed considerably to Ukraine’s budget and humanitarian needs, America has been Ukraine’s largest provider of military aid, amounting to $44bn since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. But further help has been stuck for months. In October 2023 President Joe Biden proposed that Congress appropriate $60bn for Ukraine as part of a security bill that would have spent a further $45bn on securing America’s southern border and on arming allies like Israel and Taiwan.

The real question is what is President Trump’s position on aid to Ukraine?

If Johnson’s position is similar or the same as President Trump, it’s going to be interesting.

Yep. The circular firing squad known as the GOP is active against Johnson.

What would Ronald Reagan do in this situation?

He'll stand up for Ukraine.

Easy decision.

Reagan had the good sense to back out of Lebanon as soon as he understood the dimmensions of the disaster the then MIC / DeepState was planning. Ukraine was not in our defense perimeter then and it shouldn’t be now.

They TRY to get dirt on EVERY politician.
Former Congressman Madison Cawthorn of NC stated he was invited to go to a swingers party by another congress critter.
Apparently, it is a well know thing in the DC area.
He declined the invitation.

This is how it works in DC. They get you compromised and then they control your vote. Then they own you.
Then they help you get reelected.

Keep playing around...we’ll wind up with a Dem as Speaker. Remember...Nancy Pelosi is still alive.

Why does FR insist on going after our own. Go after Schumer fro not briging HR2 to the floor...and Biden for making a mess at our border.

“He’ll go down with the ship I’m confident.
He’s Deep State.”

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he started. Now, he has chosen badly multiple times. I can’t support him, he has become a Deep State assist, and will not stand for the American People. With virtual certainty, he will end up with a big ‘payday’ for selling out the very people he was suppose to represent.

They want Ukraine or Israel funding, protect the US border first and deport the invaders.

You realize Johnson has voted WITH the Dems on Spending and FISA, right?

So again, what’s the difference?

Other than “RUSSIA BAD” someone make the case for the national interest in Ukrain.. because RFK Jr. makes a hell of a better case of why the hell what is going on there is going on, and I am hard pressed to understand why we are burning money we don’t have to protect a leader who’s as big of a fool if not bigger than the potato in the white house right now.

Ukraine cannot beat Russia head to head, and I see no reason at all we should be even contemplating our boys dying for Ukraine, so... Someone please offer me a reason we are in this mess other than we have fools for leaders.

They're extreme opposites. You think the Dem House supports Trump in any way...or any of his border policies...or any of his monetary policies...

Johnson is doing a good job...you are just obsessed with him not doing what you want.

He did the right thing. He did get the 2 year amendment attached. And budget...no way will shutting down the government improve anything. And you sound like no one votes except Johnson.
