The Biden administration has finalized a new set of regulations to prevent a future president from initiating a wholesale purge of the US civil service along the lines of what former president Donald Trump envisioned during the final months of his term.
The new rules, published in the Federal Register on Thursday and which would go into effect on 9 May, are meant to provide the 2.2 million nonpartisan civil servants who staff the executive branch with more defined protections that cannot be easily stripped away by presidential fiat.
They were inspired by an October 2020 executive order issued by Mr Trump which created a new category of federal employee known as “Schedule F” which encompassed anyone working in what the order described as “confidential, policy-determining, policy-making, or policy-advocating positions” — a classification that had generally been reserved for the political appointees who come and go with each change in administration.
According to experts, this could have encompassed most of the non-partisan experts — scientists, doctors, lawyers, economists — who are supposed to advise and inform policymakers in a way that is fact-driven and devoid of politics. The order stripped most civil service protections from these employees, allowing them to be fired without cause.

OMG...we are SO DOOMED!! The DEMONIC DEMOCRATS ARE ALWAYS 3 STEPS AHEAD OF US!!
I believe this further attempt to guarantee this monstrous goobermint into perpetuity can and will be extracted!
Purges like the democrats do all the time when they take power?
I would suggest that you don’t really need a “purge” anyway.
Take the partisans out of the top positions of these agencies, and make it a priority for new leadership to start doing competency testing for all the rank and file. Include searching for complaints about political activism while on the job.
Not a purge. A proper vetted culling.
It has the added benefit of giving you time to replace the bad apples as you sift them out.
Just more of the same.
From my favorite history of the U.S., “Dave Barry Slept Here”:
This system was very unpopular because it resulted in an unresponsive government filled with overpaid drones and hacks who, no matter how little they did or how badly they did it, could be removed from their jobs only by the unelected bosses.
The result of this discontent, the Reform Movement, produced the modern ”Civil Service” system, under which drones and hacks can be removed only by nuclear weapons.
¡afuera!
There’s a diff between firing someone and simply eliminating their job. Given that roughly half of the gubmit employees do nothing, the Trumpster has other avenues to flush the turds.
:: Why didn’t we know about this when it was being proposed ::
Some of that “we” you speak of knew about it, posted on FR about it encouraged Trump to follow through with it.
The same FReepers that determined that the Senior Executive Service (ref: above article from UK), the SES, was the key[stone] to breaking up the hold liberals had on our governing bodies.
Trump’s development of this policy-change was forecast on other political-intelligence websites and backed up with “open source research.
Open-minded FReepers brought that research here.
Sadly FR, due to its own policy decisions, doesn’t have the influence it once had among Republicans.
“Man on the street Republicans” and FReepers here (still clinging to the faded fame of buckhead) didn’t hear or know of it because they were working diligently to silence FReepers who referenced certain research sites as “psyops” and “CIA operations”.
That’s the story.
So far...
Hahahahahaha! You mean the ones who were wrong about almost everything during the WuFlu, destroyed the economy for no reason and permanently damaged a whole generation of schoolchildren? Never mind a whole bunch of foulups and across the board in every area they touch. Those experts? And yet nothing happens? Firing is too good for them. Since the secret police, excuse me the FBI, are reading I will say no more.
Stop it how? It was not a law that went through Congress.
nothing about transfers and layoffs though ... my theory is to make nome, alaska the new headquarters for a number of agencies, including the FDA, CDC, and FBI ...
Simply cut the funding to all those departments. Starve the beast. Or move the agencies away from Washington District of Caligula. No reason to have them all concentrated in one region unless you want to herd them in for the nuclear kill (the only good reason to keep them where they are).
A good spot for the Department of the Interior would be Idaho or Montana. Not too many Pygmy cannibals will want to move to those rural enclaves. And the new FBI building should be built in Nome Alaska. /spit
If the Biden administration can make rules without Congressional approval, then Trump can simply undo the rules without Congressional approval.
What is the panic about?
I believe it’s NY that can’t fire teachers for any reason.. They must keep them on the payroll and send them to a location where they just sit with the other miscreants until they reach retirement.. How sick is that....
Reassign these useless slugs to the distant parts of America. They can continue to receive salaries as they reside and work in the most remote and miserable locations in the USA. Send a bunch of them to Adak Island in the Aleutian Islands.
Also imperative is Trump must revoke all remote work and work-from-home and demand federal employees show up at their federal workplaces in designated federally-owned or leased buildings or be fired.
So the executive isn’t the executive anymore?
I just heard that in January most of the civil service jobs are being relocated to Antarctica. Gee, what a surprise!
Doesn’t it take a full calendar year now before it takes effect??
An oxymoron if I ever saw one.
And now you know the REAL priority of government employees.
