Rove: Trump Jan. 6 pardons pledge a ‘critical’ mistake

Republican strategist Karl Rove urged Democrats to “go hard” at former President Trump’s rhetoric surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, calling the former president’s pledge to free imprisoned rioters a “critical mistake.”

“If they were smart, they’d take the January 6 and go hard at it. And they would say, ‘He wants to pardon these people who attacked our Capitol,'” Rove said told MSNBC’s Ari Melber.

“One of the critical mistakes made in this campaign is that Donald Trump has now said ‘I’m going to pardon those people because they’re hostages,'” Rove said in the interview, which aired Wednesday. “No, they’re not, they’re thugs.”

Trump said last month that his first act if elected to the White House would be to free the imprisoned Jan. 6 rioters, whom he called “hostages.” The former president has expressed sympathy for those charged in connection with the insurrection on numerous occasions and spoke last year at a fundraiser organized for Jan 6. defendants.

I hate that weasely piece of sh*t. He has never been right about anything in his entire life, and Bush won *DESPITE* his horrible advice, not because of it.

Tokyo Rove is never right about anything.

Amen. He was the biggest thing wrong with the Bush administration and he has simply made the nation worse for his stupid advice.

.... nope, not naive. 90% of window smashers were fed-influenced non-Maga folks, including scaffold commander and megaphone MrMoveForward. Plenty of photos yet the FIBs can’t seem to find them 3 years later... oh and all had govt issued same megaphones. Add the Uke soldiers recruited to dress and act like militias and you’ve covered the agitators. Check with Mitch and his Senate SgtAtArms, he could probably name the troublemakers since it was a uniParty mission.... ymmv

Yes, you are naive, or you are a fool.. either way you are in complete denial of reality

You tribal belief that “my side” had no actors requires cognitive dissonance.

Ny your own admission, 90% were feds... so then who were the other 10%?

Making blanket statements that a large crowd and mob has ZERO bad actors on my side, particularly when said event was known about and planned well before it happened is just denial.

You do not get a crowd gathering for a confrontational situation, where one side only has bad actors.. human beings don’t work that way. The inability to understand there are people on the right who are also bad actors and are happy to utilize and take advantage of situations exist is nonsense. The left has Antifa, but if you think there are not groups similar who do such things are the right as well is just absolute nonsense.

No, you didn’t have a crown of 10000 or so people show up, at a planned confrontational event, and every single bad actor was “on the other side”. World doesn’t work that way, humanity doesn’t work that way.

Were most people there just peaceful folks wanting to protest, yes, were their government assets in the crowd looking to instigate, yes. Were their right wing folks who came with the pure clear intent to agitating as well? Yes.

Your denial that that ONLY people on the “OTHER” side existed with intent for bad acts is just silly, just as silly as the leftist who claim anytime violence happens at their events that its all right wingers fault.

There are bad actors who come from both sides of the political aisle.

Your argument that no one on “my side” there had any malicious intent is just as stupid as the knee jerk pro gun morons who show up when a gun owner clearly engages in a bad shoot and try to defend them.

You are basically acting like the parent of a brat, “oh no, my child couldn’t have done xyz, not my child”. Bad actors are not limited to 1 side of the political aisle, and never have been and never will be, period.

There were plenty of "MrMoveForward" types including sovereign citizen kookball Taylor James Johnatakis who was just sentenced this week.

The only “violent instigators” were on the left, and mostly employed by the deep state.

No. I am not wanting to under estimate the “independents” role in some critical districts. Elections have been lost on some slim margins.

Fraud denial.

Independents do not swing left unilaterally anyhow.

“The only “violent instigators” were on the left, and mostly employed by the deep state.”

Again, BS. Folks need to STOP with the tribal nonsense.

This was a crowd of over 10000 people, who came to a preplanned event that by its very nature was going to be confrontational. This idiotic narrative that the right side of the crowd had ZERO bad actors is absolute NONSENSE.

The crowd consisted of 3 groups.
1. People who came simply to peacefully protest (majority). 2. Government Assets who were there to instigate and
3. Non Government Assets Bad Actors.

Group 3 contained 2 subgroups
Bad Actors on the left, and Bad Actors on the right.

If you believe otherwise you are just in denial and letting your tribal urges blind you.

There is absolutely no way, you get a crowd of this size, at a pre planned event that by its nature is going to be confrontational, and ONLY end up with bad actors on one side of the issue. Not how it works, not how it has EVER worked.

There are always a subgroup of people when you get large confrontational situations, that show up with the intent to cause trouble, PERIOD, and they are not limited to one side of or the other.

Now, you can sanely make the argument there were more bad actors on one side than the other, and that the government agitators favored one side or the other, and those are reasonably arguments to make, but to blanketly state that NOBODY in the crowd with right leaning ideological viewpoints was there with the intent to cause trouble is just nonsense.
