The “crime”
In 2016, Bill and his friends registered to march in the Toronto Gay Pride Parade as members of the “Gay Zombies Cannabis Consumers Association.” Marching in the parade wearing masks and green body suits, they passed out flyers to the crowds of onlookers. The flyers warned of the horrible medical consequences of homosexual behavior and contained Bible verses. (Publication of the flyer has been banned in Canada by the courts. I guess there’s no such thing as double jeopardy in Canada.
I could see this happening in the USA in a few years despite the protections we supposedly currently enjoy.
I could see it happening in Ukraine today.
on the other hand, In Russia it would be the naked marching homos that would probably be facing trial.

At what point does this become reverse discrimination?
In the U.S., “double jeopardy” is unconstitutional. But in Canada, the government can appeal a “not guilty” verdict and force a second criminal trial. Even so, everyone was shocked when two weeks after Bill’s acquittal the government filed a “notice of appeal.”

This is why there should not be any “hate speech” laws.
Those in power can define anything they disagree with as “hate speech’. It is censorship, pure and simple.
Several years ago we went to Winnipeg to a music festival. Our son was performing. So was one of his friends at the time who was/is the grandson of Pete Seeger. He was singing “I might be right, I might be wrong, I’ve got the right to sing this song. I pointed out to our son that he did not, in Canada, have the “fight” to sing the song, he only had to permission because there was no 1st amendment.
