Double jeopardy?
Have no idea if Canada offers this protection from the Magna Carta or not. However, here where double jeopardy is prohibited by the Constitution, this is easily gotten around by filing Federal charges after a state court has acquitted someone. He was acquitted of murder, but we’re charging ‘depravation of rights’, a completely different crime.
