Double jeopardy?

Have no idea if Canada offers this protection from the Magna Carta or not. However, here where double jeopardy is prohibited by the Constitution, this is easily gotten around by filing Federal charges after a state court has acquitted someone. He was acquitted of murder, but we’re charging ‘depravation of rights’, a completely different crime.

From the article:

In the U.S., “double jeopardy” is unconstitutional. But in Canada, the government can appeal a “not guilty” verdict and force a second criminal trial. Even so, everyone was shocked when two weeks after Bill’s acquittal the government filed a “notice of appeal.”
